for the better protecting the city of Savannah

1. Be it ordained by the nt-iyo* C td n\le> Kicn of

hereby ordained bj ihe authority of the same. That
there shall be within the city of Savanna'* a X gh«
Watch or Guard, consisting of a superintendent,
deputy superintendent two subalterns, to be tie*
jltmiuatcd division sergeants, and. twenty-six
watchmen And one drummer and tiler*
2. And be it further ordained, That on the se
cond regular meeting of council in January, and
annually on the second regular meeting of coun
cil in January thereafter, there shall be elected,
a superintendent, deputy superintendent and two

and at the same time shall be enlisted by the su
perintendent under'the direction and controul of
