REGIMENTAL PA HAVE of TO-Jt O Hit 0 It'.
It is not generally knowr, that at tbe last sea-
(ion of Uie legislature, a new militia bill wis pass
ed, by which courts of enquiry are empowered to
fine privates for non-attendance, as high as twen
ty dollars Ait the law has not yet Seen publish
ed, this intimation is given that persona may not
be deceived, in supposing that they cannot be fin
ed more than heretofore.
We understand, that there i.« now in the city,
an individual, begging charity from our citizens,
who is not an object worthy of their attention or
benevolence. He is said to be either a Frenchman
or a Swiss. A ;on.iderabie sum of money has
already been bestowed upon him by the humane
and benevolent. From what We can learn,_ lie is-,
no doubt, an impostor. — VcrOum tat tapienti.

In a late report of Mr. secretary Calhoun, he
. proposes, that a company of American traders
with a sufficient, capital, to be divided into sltares
of one hundred dollars each, be established, to be
limited to the term of twenty years, paying an
annual tax, be. Such an establishment, protect
ed by our military post! in that quarter, he thinks,
would speedily destroy all foreign competition
and would, in a few years, push our trade across
tlie continent to the Pacific. The most profitable
fur and peltry trade in the world would be ours,
UNITED STATES’ BANK COMMITTEE.
We learn from Washington, (says the Franklin
Gazette of the lltli instant,) that Mr. Spencer
confined under the hands of hi; physician. Mr
T|der lias gone to Richmond to pursue the inves
tigation at that branch of the bank, and it wiil in
all probability be some time befoie it will come in
due form before the house, as the enquiry res
pecting general Jackson and the Seminole war
w ill precede it. It is whiskered that the commit-
- tee are divided upon tbe subject—three being on
one side, and two on the other. But whit in
particular, the qurstiou is on which they are divid
ed, and, of course, what side the Timer are on
and what the two, has not yet leaked out.
