We have been politely favored with a
letter from major genera Jackson, to bri-
cxdier general Glascock, from which »t
nave made the following extract:—
"Camp, m line mf March,

‘‘1 cannot adequately express my feel
ings on the outrageous and inhuman attack
nr captain Wright and party, on the su
perannuated men and women of the friend
ly, (-hchaw v.llage, which you recite. It
; will be a stigma on the American nation,
unless the general government use their
' endeavors to bring the perpetrators to j
tice. I have ordered Wright to be arrest-
• ed, ami lie shall be tried by a military
court. I have written the governor of
Georgia ou the subject, expressing my as-
'tonishment at his unwarrantable interfer
ence with my duties.
“I congratulate vuu on the safe march
of your brigade to Fort Early, wit'i a hope
that the brave Georgians under your com-
' niaml, who have encountered the dangers,
fatigues and privations of a long march in
an .unfriendly country, may be speedily
restored, in health, to their families and
, liom<y».

In Saturday's sheet, we mentioned our in'rn-

excited at preterit in the community, the decision
of die jury might lie b anned by those social feelings
which every man, who looks on this city as hit
permanent abode, must experience on such an
occasion, and be I hereby doing injustice to their
aiitayoi isls, to whom they are desirous to give
every advantage warranted by reason.
It m»y be some consolation to the parents, re
lative* and friends of major Whisht, to learn, that
his body has been picked up near the spot where
he w’ai drowned; and that general Gainis had it
convey ed to Fort Scott, and there interred w ith
those honors due to his rank.
We are sorry to state, that a serious dispute has
occurred between generals Jacxsox, and Scott,
which we tear will eventuate in a serious manner.
General Jackson intends, as soon as he gets through
the present campaign,to repair to New York for
the purpose of calling Scott out.—We have learnt
the points which created die dispute, but do not,
at this time, feel ourselves authorized to state them.
We also understand that gen. Jackson has issu-
.ed ordeis for the arrest of captain Osin Wbigot;
. wild if apprehended, to be taken to head-quarters,
at. Fort Montgomery, where he will be tried.—
The general has written a vrry severe letter to the
governor of Georgia, condemning his conduct in
the strongest terms, for assuming the power he
did, in ordering the force under Wright to act
against the Indians, for which he says the govern
or ‘shall be accountable for.”
General Jackson contempla'ed reaching Pen-
sacols on or about the 16.U ult. which place he
intended to occupy.

ot the most prolific source of tiie diseases of our
city, is x subject, which the feelings and heart of
each one of us force us to s.ckitoarledge is not
••factitious," but of “really great importance;'’ ar.d
on the accomplishment of which, the lives and
happiness of thousands may depend. That “Medi
us,” therefore; should urge the committee to ul
terior, before they have effected preliminary mea
sures—and should censure them for oeglec’.ing
extend their efforts to remote situations, before
they have been able td bring the nearer, within
their aalutary project—is, though precipitate and
unseasonable, creditable tu his heart. 1 say tb:S
in vindication of the members of the committee, al*

public spirited; deeply impressed with the impor
tance of the charge committed to them, and zeal
ously and perseveringly endeavoring to accomplish
the object for which they were constituted. Still*
tike aii other men, they may be fable to relax
their t Hurts; and 1 am glad there is not wan ting
one who w iil stimulate them to the performance ot
their duty. Nor do the yervanta of Uie public alone,
require to be urged to their duty. The public them
a Jves too frequently atnk into a state of apathy;
with respect to their must important concerns, and
consider their own duties as ceasing with the erta-
lionof their representatives. 1 sm v therefore, fur
tier pleaAd with the essay of Medicos, as it wilt
keep the abeuiiun of die public alive to their most

to wink, or public exertion to tire, until these in

I hive been much gratified, Messrs. Editors,
with the spirit and ability with which your learn
ed correspondent, “Medicus,” has vindicated the
views and supported the measures of the citizens,
with regard to what is ordinarily called dry
e ,.l »•■«. He. lias defended the course hitherto pur-
Sued hv the committee of hea'th, with all the zeal
liianthropist, and with an intelligecge indi-
-.yating a full investigation of the subject. After
the mournful experience of the fatal effects pro.
ceedmg from the cultivation of rice in cur vicini
ty, the unanimous and decided opinion of the me
dical a ci.-ty of our state, that it is this which has
given to Savannah its melancholy pre-eminence in
■disease; and the concurring testimony of scientific
- physicians, in all ages, to this effect, it is impos
sible to resist the conclusion of Medicos, and to
which the inhabitants of this city undis'Cntinglv
.yielded, that this is “the fruitful origin cf the mi

bitted,” that it i-emphatically the “Python” which

whnuld be prosecuted with an tin .baring zeal and
own “inflexible energy,” aim that neither the per

did,” the bustling “devices of the empirical,” nor
aUe meanness or obstinacy of the avariciouc, should
we permitted to arrest or for a moment to delay
^accomplishment of this holy undertaking; but
,jut we should pursue it with untiring persever-
. trace to its consummation, until all the grounds in
