some supposed it was die now ship Columbia,
whoso place was taken by the Brittimiu. At 10

What has cuused this accident, wo are yot un-

tides, and heavy gales on the coast, we have no
doubt diat she experienced a tremendous storm {
rit perhaps a succession of gales and heavy sous.
The President sailed from this city hurt Mon*

Mr. Jaudon, Mr. Brown, aud Mr. Amip.all
Of die U.8. Bank, were going out to London,

made all their cumulations relative to monetary

months This delay will be productive of sad In*
convenience in this respect alone, and overthrow
all die arrangements made iu England. Bills
will become due aud be protested, aud quite a
sirialioxpjbsion will succeed. Many of our most
eminent merchants have also made similar cal-
dilation* iri regard to money matters, all of
which will bo overthrown to the surprise andde-
rangement of die mercantile world in England.
Added to all this, will bo die intense and ag»W
izitig excitement produced in other quurtersof
England by her nrin-arrival. The Acadia loft
Boston on Saturday, the 1st instant, and will
reach Liverpool next Saturday, with the posi
tive intelligence that the steam sliip President was
to follow Tier the next day, and carrying out the
names of many who were ttt leave iu her. The
President will be duo in LiVerpbol next Monday.
But that day will pauover, and tbe duy after tliut,
and the whole week will ran by, arid yet there
will he‘ no truce of die President AUd eyes
will grow dim with watching, and cheeks tottk

timore American of this morning, claims to hWvo
hoard from 104 counties, in which die Federal
majority is upwards of 1700; and the Inlelligten-
cer, of this morning, claims 859 majority. Not
withstanding this, wo feel confident that the De

our returns are copied from Federal papers.

by tho Whigs of this city. Were it important,
the Whig party of Virginia could nna would

PETER'S PILLS.
W F. would call attention to the advertisement
in qur columns to-day of PETERS’VEG
ETABLE PILLS. Wo understand by the best
medical authority, lhat there is no prepnratibn of
the day which enjoys so on viable a reputation.
At the South uriu North, their success lias been
unbounded, nud wherever introduced we believe
they have given tlm most perfect satisfaction.
We have this day had an interview with one of
oUr citizens, HetiryK. Fox,-who was recently
cured nf a most remarkable and obstinate cuta-
Heous eruption, where the body was coveted With
fulsaum ulcers, nud even the tonsil* of the throat
eaten riwrty—and by using these Pills daily for six
weeks, was entirely restored to health.—New
York Examiner.
PETERS' VEGETABLE PILLS.
They do indeed restore the health ofthnbndy,
because they niiriiy and invigorate the blond, und
theic go«d vllubts are notcuiniurrbutanoci] tty any
inconvenience; being composed entirely df veg
etables, they do not expose those who nsb them
to danger, nnd their effects nre as certain as they
are salutary; they are daily and safely adminis
tered to infuncy, youth, manhood nnd old age, aud
to women in tile most criticulanddelicntb circum
stances, they db not disturb' or shock thb animal
functions, unt restores their order rihd re-estab
lishes their health; and for all the purpUses which
