Few discoveries tn modern chemistry promise
more ininrtttunt results than that of Kreosote, by
Dr. Roicnenbitcn, «n cmimjut chemist of Blan«-
ko, in Monrovia. It is a highly rectified liquid
product, obtained from wood, nnd 1*analogous to
eliarroal in its antiseptic properties, hut far more
powerful ns n corrective nnd preventive of do-
any. Charcoal, notwithstanding "da well known
cleansing properties, is objectionable ii* n dotiti-

of minute particles remaining between the teeth
nnd producing injury. Kreosote, on the contra
ry. cannot bo liable to this objection, nnd posses
ses. to n much greater extent, tlm nntiseniic nml
purifying properties of tho former. The trials
which liavo been made with It, in this conutry

T HESE Powders are nil admirable substitute
for Yeast in ninkingall kinds oflintier^cokes
and hnvo the advantage over that article in mu*
king the batter perfectly light nnd ready for ba
king the instant they ore mixed. Buckwheat and
other coke* when made with these powdera, are
less likely to disagree with the stomach tlinn those
made with yeast, and ns it requires but a few
minutes to prepnro for baking, the possibility of
having them sour is entirely nvoidad.
The good effect of mixing cake attd biscuit
with these powders, hns been approved by many
nf tho most eminent physicians and surgeons in
this country; they arenJso higl
