Savannah Evening Post,
T HE subscriber proposes to publish in this
city, a paper under the above title, as soon

tained to warrant the undertaking.
The Stioimnnh Footing Punt will bo published

y Car _the other three mouths, (July, August and
{September,) it will bo issued throe times a week.
Tbo undersigned is well known in this city,
having resided here for the lust nine years, and
during the whole of that time, acted ns Foremun
of the Savannah Republican. lie docs not, them*,
fore, undertake tbo arduous duties necessarily
appertaining to the establishment of a now jour
nal, without somo experience and a due appreci
ation of its high respqnsibiliiiu*.
The Editorial Department will bo under the di
rection of a gentleman well qiudifiod to utteud to
that duty.
The Savannah Evening Post will bo devoted to
the advancement of tlio true doctrines of Slate
Rights—confining tho action of the General Gov
ernment within its proper nud legitimate sphere
—to the establishment of Inw and order through
out the land, from tho primury movemeiitsofilie
peopjo at the ballot box, to the highest legislative
end judicial tribunals; and us tbo host and mnt.t
available moans of securing and placing on a per
manent basis these inestimable interests, tbo sub
scriber's undivided support will be given to the
administration about to be established under the
auspices of that venerable, honest nud sturdy old
patriot-hero,Gen. WM. HENRY IIAURISON.
Ho avows himself an opponent uf tho perni
cious doctrine practised during the last four
.years, '• that to the victors belong the spoils." The
people h ive condemned it; nud in Ins opinion, it
lends and would—if persevered in—result in a
species of despotism, heretofore unknown in the
nnunls of any country. He looks upon itas the
greatest adversary of political virtue—nay, even
ofhutnun happiness. Man, as a citizen, decays,
withers and shrinks under the influence of such
n doctrine. Liko tbo plant of some temperate
clime, scorched and burnt up by the sun or a tor-
-rid zone, he sickens and dies. 'Tho subscriber,
far from wishing to be instrumental in advancing
such an infamous principle, would desire to im-
.pros* ou thn minds of his natrons and tho public,
a generosity of pm pose which would scorn such
a doctrine and which should neither practice the
arts of corruption nor bo their dupes. He would
•endonvnr to impress on the mind* of the renders
of the Savannah Evening Post, tho (act, tlmt nil
governments founded oil such nn immoral basis
and palpable injustice, debases and injures the
happiness, while it infringes gradually, but cer
tainly, on the civil rights of die great muss of tho
people. «
