rjlllE subscriber Ims baen induced, at the re
pented solicitation of his friends, to offer to
the public tho Medicines which have proved of
sighul benefit to themselves. It is idle to declare
that ho has no other object lii view than the. ben-
ofit ofthe affiirted. Self-preservation is the first
organic jaw of nature in man; and he who labors,
oxorts bis intellect, and spends his inenimTor the
public good, without expectation of iDiy'return
train tlie public, must pos.es* u greater share of
philanthropy than one in a thousand. After this
avowal, it is proper to mention, that tlie Hygeian
Aledinitics have been compounded after a life of
practical experiment nnd.acute observation: and
that those recipes nre adopted which hrive'Weii
found most efficacious ill the troatumtit of the dis
eases for which they nre recommended. It is al
so proper to observe, that in his younger years,
the subscriber himself suffered tho nihst deplora
ble ill health, nrising entirely from great derange
ment ofliis digestive organs, induced by too in
tense application to study at college, anil acquir
ing a knowledge of his profession. His own suf
ferings early induced him to investigate the cause
of them, nnd to endeavor to discover the best re
medies. His experience, in connexion with the
observations hu has mnde in a great number of
post mortem examinations, has irresistibly drawn
him to the conclusion, that the digestive organs
are tho sent of a great share of human disease— 1
that tho diseased or deranged state of them is tho
cause of much of nur sulferiug; for these are vi
tal organs, supplying the system with ■nourish
ment, ns well us purifying it, und preserving its
healthy condition. Besides, tho svinputhy-exist
ing between the digestive organs nnd every oth
er pnrt ofthe system is very great, throiich the
connexion of tho nerves. Wbeii the’digestive
organs are deranged or diseased, the blood is
poisoned by the absorption of acrid, putrid, and
undigested matter from the stomach and intes
tines; nnd this mutter is not so completely thrown
oft’at the different emmictovies in disease as in
health. As the blood i? circulated through the
system with wonderful rapidity for its nourish
ment, it immediately begins to’snfier whenever
the blond becomes contaminated. Hence, if we
desire or expect health, we must keep the foun
tains of life pure. , 8. J. SPOONER, M. D.

No disenses are mure general, none more diffi
cult to eradicate, nor has them bean any more
imptoperly treated, than thoso of n Scrofulous
Nature; and indued it is a matter of no less as
tonishment than distress, that in mnladies which
arc in.a manner intoruoveu iu tho constitutions
of tho majority of mankind, the genarnl practice
of physic is not only inadequate to a perfect cure,
but iu many instmicos lends to confirm the dis
order in tlie hnbit. Mercurial preparations aro
by some given most liberally, without coiiMdcr-
lug that it is tho province of mercury to attenuate
and make the blood too thin nnd watery, which
in Scrofulous and Scrohutic cases, is already too
much impoverished.
It is the grand intention nnd absolute effect of
