The following exquisite hyuiu has
Leon pronounced hy IV. Bacon to Ik>
unsurpassed in the English or any.
other language. It was written hy
Augustus I. llillhouse, who died in
Paris some years ago:
Trembling before thine awful throne,
() tool! in dust my sin' l <>w n,
J ustiec and tnerey for my life
Contend ! Oh! smile and heal the strife.
The Saviour smiles! upon my soul
New tides of hope tumultuous roll—
His voice proclaims my pardon found,
Seraphic transport wings the sound.
Karth lias a joy unknown in Heaven —
The new born peace of sin forgiven!
Tears of such pure and deep delight,
Ye angels! never dimmed your sight.
Ye saw of old on chaos rise
The beauteous pillars of (lie skies.
Ye know where morn exulting springs,
And evening folds her drooping wings.
Bright heralds of the Eternal Will,
Abroad His errand ye fulfill;
Or throned in floods of beamy day,
Symphonious ill 1 [is presence play.
Loud is the song—the heavenly plain
Is shaken with the choral strain—
And dying echoes, floating far,
Draw music front each chiming star.
But I amid your choir shall shine,
And all your knowledge shall he mine;
Ye on your harps must learn to hear
A second chord that mine will hear.

A. J. Roberts 4* Cos., Atlanta, Ga.:
Gentlemen—l am well pleased witlithc result
of the use of the “ Double Refined Poudrclle ”
on my crops. I tried it on both corn and cotton,
and am satisfied wherever it was applied the yield
was more than double wlmt it would have been
without it.. I regret exceedingly my not using it
more extensively the present year, but will try
to make tip my loss by purchasing a larger
quantity next spring. 1 regard it as the cheapest,
most reliable, and easiest managed fertilizer with
in my knowledge, and cheerfully recommend it (as
I have tried it thoroughly) to the farmers of this
section, and particularly to those planting cotton,
from the fact of its causing it to mature from ten
days to two weeks earlier than it would witliou
the nse of the Pondrette. I also used it on my
garden, and found it of much benefit to all kinds of
plants.
Very respectfully, etc.,
G. S. OGLESBY.
Extract from a letter received from Professor
Martin, of Hampden, Sidney College, Virginia,
dated July Ist. 1867.
The Double Refined Poudrette is operating like
a charm on my Crop, and attracting universal
attention from all beholder*. lam already
satisfied that it is the cheapest and surest renovator
of our worn-out lands.
High Shoals, Ga.. October 4, 1867.
James It. Dny, Es<|.:
Sir—The Double Refined Pondrette I bought
lor two other parties in connection with myself
one of them used it on cotton and corn, and thinks
it answered finely; the other put it oil cotton, on
very poor ground, and thinks it doubled his crop.
I used it on corn. It answered finely, and was
thought hy the hand that cultivated tlie crop to
he fully equal to Rhode’s Super Phosphate. I
also used it on about an acre of cotton, and I am
clearly of opinion that it is the beet and cheapest
fertilizer in nse, and I expect to order several
tons this winter.
Yours, very respectfully,
ISAAC POWELL.
Ellaville, Schley Cos., Ga., Oct. I, 18C-7.
The Doable Refined Pondrette purchased of
you la*t_ Spring, I think, increased iny crop of
cotton 15(f pounds per acre ; put it upon worn out
pine land, at tlie rate of JOU pounds per acre,
drilled in witli cotton seed.
Yours, etc., S. MONTGOMERY.
Salisbury, N C., Aug. 10, 1867
James R Dev, Esq.:
Dear Sir—l can safely say that your Double
Refined Pondrette is far superior to any fertilizer
for Cotton ; for I have given it a fair trial this
season.
Yours, JEHU FOSTER, Jr.
Savannah, Ga Sept. i!5,18117.
James R. hey, Esq.. Pres't.:
Dear Sir—l used the Double Refilled Pondrette
bought of you lait Spring on Corn. I think it
increased tlie yield one half. I consider it an
excellent manure.
Respe ” ill T. HOLCOMBE.
Ridgeway, S. C , Sept. 21, 1807.
Mr. James R. Dky.:
Sir—l applied tlie Double Refined Pondrette
hy itself, and in combination with other fertilizers,
on COTTON, and am pleased with it, so much
*o that it is my present intention to purchase a
larger supply of you next year to apply to my
Cotton crop.
Yours, very respectfully,
HENRY C. DAVIS.

James It. Dky, Esq.:
Sir—ln reply to your inquiry of the results of
our experience in the use of yoiiriinpioved Pond
rette, purchased of yon for this year's COTTON
CROP, we would beg leave to say that Ihc pies
ent season Ims been one quite unfavorable to the
action of all fertilizers.
Several kind s of manure * mere lined by on,
with the exception of your J’ondretlc, witli little
or no eftect to ttie crop
WHERE THE POUDRKTTK WAS USED
IT GAVE US NEAR HALF A BALE MORE
PER ACRE, AND CAUSED THE COTTON
TO OPEN MUCH EARLIER, and we would
therefore recommend the same a* a concentrated
manure for the growth of Cotton, as well as
improvement to the soil.
Yours, very respectfully,
