A brilliant day it w«* upon the Metairie
A lovelier never shone upon tho smiling worm ;
A<l rift in »*ur« skj, light lucent clouds set free,
Their eranescenl banners to the breeze unfurled.
A verT dream Klysian was ihe 1-adics’ Suml,
With bright eyes brightly glinolnr, and with
cheeks aglow;
Fair women there, of a'l, the fairest ia the land,
tending their sweetest presence to the princely

Now shout* go up from crowded tau«Js, and
stretch, and all;
Vnd lightsome “Fanny Cheatham” wins the
heat and race.
And thus tho ventured gloves were lost—the color
mauve.
Jouvin’s, six and a garter, lingers short hut
tap?r,
Sent in a tiny parcel to the Queen of love ;
With compliments upon perfumed, gold-tintod
paper.

The organ peals through fretted arch aud eei ing.
And candles glimmer in the morning light ;
In pew and aisle tho faithful there arc kneeling,
\nd others gaze upon tho holy rite.
To grand, harmonious chords tho choir is chant
ing.
While fall robed priest pa* nn or plaint intone ;
And deeply penitential souls arc panting
For absolution for the sins they own.
A gush of sunshine through the window stream
ing
Sheds golden glory on a head bout down,
Flawing afar from burnished censers gleaming.
Lighting with colors warm the Virgin’s crown.
Now, he, Minna ent, the service ended,
Are sweep of silk, and tread »f liny feet :
And one with gloves of mauve, and colors blended,
Passes with fairy lightness to the street.

of the manner in which Messrs. Bitows, Coo .airs

The principal office of Me- .is Brown, Coombs

city. This location is one of very easy access by
strangers inasmuch as it i> within a stone’s throw
from the City Hall. All inventors temporarily so

establishment. In the majority of instanceuo model

the visitor will ordinarily suffice to convey such
aknowledge of his invention as will enable Messrs.
Brown, Coo.mik A* Cos. to definitely determine

Messrs Brown, Coomiis &. (V». are prepared to

whether invent ions cont ain any leaf tires of paten

sketch or rough model of the machine or ot her in
vention that is supposed to hi* new. together with
a brief description of the same, and as soon as pos
sible thereafter a letter of the best advice is mail
ed to the person desiring the information. These
opinions are formed from their own mature exper
ience, but if an inventor desires to know, positively,
whether his incipient idea Ims ever been embodied
in a machine or process already patented, his wisest
course will he to have a preliminary examination
made at the United States Patent office by Messrs.

search among all t lie records of that institution, and
then promptly forward a full and carefully written
report as to the patentability of the invention un
