A rather amusing and interesting case came up this week, before one of our Courts, first husband appeared all of a sudden, alter seven years, claiming the pre-emption right to the woman, and husband number two resisted under a misapprehension, and vent so far as to assault the woman, which produced a disagreement, a war of words •nd blows; and a Peace Warrant. It came U P in evidence—proven by defendant's own witnesses—that he had used his bands upon the person of tlic woman, and bad bruised ber considerably. A stationary switch of great simplicity, applicable to horse railroad turnouts, has re cently been tested in Boston with successful results. The contrivance consists ol an im movable switch combined with a wised guide-block of the same bevel at the side, so arranged that a guide shoe upon the ear, working between one of the forward wheels and the block, instantly throws the enr to the brunch track. The shoe, which is placed inside the wheel, is attached to a lovor, dropped to the track by the action of the driver’s foot on approaching the switeh, and raised again by a ratchet and idiiiiii upon (lie principle ol a brake, the switch and blocks are in one piece, can be laid down without disturbing the track, and the combi nation cost, sixty per cent, less than the movable switch, besides dispensing with the services of a tender. A Recipe tor IMtirilicn, We find the following in an Atlanta paper, and it is worthy of trial. Twenty years practice with it in a family shows its efficacy, as so stated by the gentleman furnishing it to the paper : Put in a largo pitcher two tablespoonsful of carbonite of soda and four of lont sugar, pour on these a pint of hot water ; when they are perfectly dissolved, add halt a pint ol cold water, then put in a tablespoonful of pulverized Turkey rhubarb, or two ounces of the tincture, a small teaspoonful of laudanum, eight drops of the oil of peppermint, or enough of the tincture to give it a perceptible taste, and, lastly, half a pint of good French brandy. Bottle up carefully, and administer to the patient in doses equal to half a wine glnss full three times a day, or as often as the bowels are moved. In extreme eases, accompanied by griping pains, double the proportion of brandy and laudanum, and use freely. Give it a fair trial ; no family should be without AUGUSTA MARKETS. Thursday, .May 28 I*. It. Hadway’s Heady Relief. Is the cheapest and best family medicine in the world. The moment it is used, pain ceases. It cities rheumatism, neuralgia, bilious cholic, and inflammation of the kid neys, almost instautly. If seized with sudden colds, coughs, influenza, diptheria, hoarse ness, sore throat, chills, fever and ague, mercurial pains, scarlet fever, etc., etc., take from four to six of Rad way’s Fills, and also ttvkc a teaspoonful of the Ready Relief in a glass of warm water, sweetened with sugar or honey ; bathe the throat, head and chest with Ready Relief, (if ague or inter mittent fever, bathe the spine also), in the morning you will be cured. llow the Relief acts.—ln a few minutes the patient will foci a slight tinging irrita tion, and the skin becomes reddened ; if there is much distress in the stomach, the Relief will assist nature in removing the offending cause—a general warmth is felt throughout the entire body, and its diffusive stimulating properties rapidly courses through every vein and tissue of the system, arousing the slothful and partially paraly zed glands and organs to renewed and healthy action ; perspiration follows, and the body feels increased heat. The sickness at stomach, colds, chills, headache, oppress ed breathing, the soreness of the throat, and all pains, either internally or externally, rapidly subside, and the patient falls into a tranquil sleep, awakes refreshed, invigor ated, cured. It will be found that in using the Relief externally, either on the spine or across the kidneys, or over the stomach and bowels, that for several days after a .pleasing warmth will bo lelt, showing the length of time it continues its influence over the diseased parts. Kegußrution shows 1,015 while majority. Many arc stricken from the lists on account of defec tive amnesty papers. Applicants are pre senting the ainuetdy oath instead of certificate from the State Department Hint the oath was filed as the law requires. Persons holding personal pardons front the President, or proper amnesty papers, found no difficulty. The proper routine is to mail the original oath to Soward, who, retaining the original oath, will return the proper certificate. Replying to Townsend's application to be relieved from the War Office perplexities, the President said bo had no new orders to issue ; he bad issued orders sotno months since. The business of the War Office has stopped. The Schofield difficulty lies in flic verbiage of his nomination, which reads : vice Stanton, removed. Officers of the War Office unchanged. Drake’s movement in opposition to imme diate admission of Arkansas, excites astonish ment. It is not known who will follow his lead. The Senate isdividod into four parties on the subject. Senatorial caucus considering Forney’s resignation, adjourned to Monday. When the “acquittal’’ Senators entered, Wade, Chandler, Cattcll, and other extreme Radicals withdrew. Ex-Senator Fogg, of North Carolina, is among applicants lor Forney’s place. It is believed that Seward, Randall, and McCulloch will soon retire. It is asserted, positively, that McCulloch will retire on the Ist of June. Stanton's soli has resigned his clerkship in war office. Congressional. Washington, May 28— Senate —Wade appointed lluckalew, Morrill of Maine, Stew art, Chandler and Thayer, a Committee to investigate reported corruptions, Doolittle presented a memorial of the Conservative citizens of South Carolina against the Constitution. Doolittle said it was an able paper, tcmercly written, and asked its reference for special reconsidera tion. A Judiciary Committee bill was intro duced, time for the completion of the Southern Pacific Railroad ; also, a bill reducing the interest of flic public debt. Arkansas’admission was up. Drake opposed the admission until the fourteenth article becomes a part ot the fundamental law—maintaining that twenty eight States arc required to ratify, and that Ohio and New Jersey had the right to recall their assent. Drake added there was no hurry, we have done without these States for seven years, and can do without them seven months longer. Sensation! Extensive sensation. Adjourned. House —The corruption committee intro duced a resolution instructing the Sergeant at Arms to fit up a guard room iti the Capi tol for Woolley’s confinement.
