REPUBLICAN PMTFORH.
The National Republican party of the United States,
assembled in National Convention, in the city of Chi
cago, on the 20th day of May, 1868, make the followtrig
Declaration of Principles :
Ist. Wo.congratulate the country on tho assured suc
cess of the reconstruction policy of aj
evinced by the adoption, in a majority of the Slates
lately in rebellion, ot Constitutions securing equal civil
and political rights to all, and regard it as the duty of
the Government to sustain those institutions, am! to
prevent the people of ouch States from being remitted
to a state of anarchy.
2d. 'Phe guarantee, by Congress, of equal suffrage to
all loyal men hi the South was demanded by every con
sideration of public safety, of gratitude and of justice,
and must be maintained, while the question of suffrage
in all the loyal States properly belongs to the people of
those States. *
Sd. We denounce all forms of repudiation as a na
tional crime, arid the national honor requires the pay
ment of the public indebtedness, in the ptmost good
faith, to all creditors, at home and abroad, not only
according to the letter, but the. spirit of the laws
under which It was contracted.
4th. It is due to the labor of the nation that taxation
should be equalized and reduced as rapidly as the na
tional faith will permit.
sth. The national debt, contracted, aa it has been, for
the preservation of the Union for all time to cqme,
should be extended over a fair period for redemptrnir,
and it is the dutyof Congress reduce the rate of in
terest thereon, whenever it can honestly be done.
6th. That the belt policy to diminish our burden of
debt is to so improve our credit that capitalists will seek
to loan us money at lower rates of interest than we now
pay, and must continue to pay, so long as repudiation,
partial or total, open or covert, is threatened or sus
pected.
7tlk The Government of tlie United States should be
administered with the strictest ecoriQmy.’and the cor
ruptions which have been’ so shamefully nursed and
fostered by Andrew Johnson call loudly for radical re--
form. •
Bth. YVe profoundly deplore the untimely and tragic
death of Abraham Lincoln, and regret the accession of
Andrew Johnson to the Presidency, who has acted
treacherously to the people who elected him aud tU«
cause he was pledged to support ; has usurped nigh
legislative and judicial functions; has refused to exe
cute the laws; has used his high oflice to induce other
Otllcers to ignore and violate the laws; has employed
his executive powers to render insecure the property,
peace, liberty and life of the cithien; has abused the
pardoning power; has denounced the National Legisla
ture as uncunstiUrtional; has persfotendy and corruptly
resisted, by every measure in his power, every proper
attempt at tlie reconstruction of-the States lately id re
bellion; has perverted the public patronage into an
engine of wholesale corruption; and has been justly
impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors, ami
properly pronounced guilty thereof by the vote of
Tliirty-five Senators.
9th. The doctrine of Great Britain and other European
powers, that beettuse a man is once a suited, he is
always so, must be resisted at every hazard by the
United States, as a relic of the feudal time, not author
ized by the law of nations, and at war with our national
honor and indhpendenev. Naturalized eitizeut are enti
tled to be protected in all their rights of citizenship as
though they were natural bom, and no citizen of the
United States, native or naturalized, must be liable to
arrest and Imprisonment, by any foreign power, for acts
done, or’words spoken, in this country, and if so arrested
and imprisoned, it is the duty of the Government to
interfere in his behalf.
10th. Os all who were faithful in the trials of the late
war, there were none entitled to more especial honor
than the.brave soldiers and seamen, who endured the i
hardships of the campaign and cruise, and imperilled
their lives in the service of the country. The bounties
and pensions provided by law for these brave defenders
of the nation are obliagtions ilevej to bo forgotten. The
widows and orphans of the gallant dead are the wards of
the people, a sacred legacy bequeathed to the nation’s
protecting care.
11th. Foreign immigration, which in the past has
added so much to the wealth, development of resources,
and increase of power of this nation, the asylum of the
oppressed of all nations, should be fostered and encour
aged by a liberal and Just policy.
12th. This Convention declares its sympathy with all
the oppressed people which are struggling for their
rights. *

Asiatic Cholera in China.
ALMOST EVERY CASE
CURED WITH
PAIN KILLER.
o
Read the following letter from
Rev. R. Telford. Missionary in China,.now
visiting his home in Pennsylvania:
W’ASHtNGToN. Px., June 25,1866.
Messrs. Perry Davis A Son, Providence, R. 1.:
Dear Sirs—During a residence *>f some ten
years as a Missionary in Siam and China, I found
your vegetable Pain Killer a most valuable
remedy for that fearful scourge, the Cholera.
In aduunistenng tlie mediciue. I found it most
effectual to give a teaapoonful of Paiu Killer iu a
gill of hot water sweetened with sugar; thou,
after about fifteen minutes, begin to give a table
'spoonful ot the same mixture every minute until
relief was obtained. Apply hot applications to
the extremities. Bathe tlus stomach with Pain
Killer, clear and nib tlie limbs briskly. OI those
who hnd the cholera, and took the medicine faith
fully'in the way stated above, eight out of ten
yeeovered. Youra, truly,
K TELFOBD.
If an attack with Diarrhoea, Dysentery, or
Cramp Colic, don’t delay the use of the Paiu
Killer. Sold by atl medicine dealers. Price, 25
cents, 50 cents, and $1 per bottle.
Maxhattak, Kansas, April 17,1866.
Gentlemen * * ’ I want to say a little
more about the Pain Killer. I consider it a very
valuable medicine, and always keen it on'hand.
I have travelled a good deal since I have been in
Kansas, and never without taking it with me.
In my practice I used it freely tor the Asiatic
Cholera, in 1819, and with better success Utau any
other medicine; I also nsed it here for cholera in
1855, with the same good result.
Truly, yours, A. HUNTING, M. D.
Swato, China.
Choleia ’***l regret to say that the
cholera has prevailed here of late to a fearful
extent. For the last three weeks, from ton to
fifty or sixty fatal cases each day Ims been re
ported. I should add that the Pain KiUer, seat
recently from tlie Mission House, has been used
with considerable success during this epidemic.
If taken in season is generally eflbetnal in check
ing tho disease,
Bev. CHARLES HARDINIG.
[From the Portland Monthly.l
Summer Complaint and Dysentery-
Bowel complaints seem just now to be the
prevailing element, aud any medicine that is
everywhere acceptable, aud that is reliable, is a
very desirable acquisition. From what we have
seen, heard, and experienced, we believe Davis’
Pain KiUer is this desideratum. For the best
method of using it, we quote from the directions:
“For common bowel complaints, give one tea
spoonfnl in a gill of new milk and molaasee, in
eqaal pane, stirred well together; lessen the dose
for children, according to the age. If the pain be
severe, ladhe tlie bowels aud back with the medi
cine. This mods of treatment is good iu cases ot
the cholera morbus, sudden stoppages, etc. Re
peat the dose every hour.
“Tlift quickest way I ever saw the dysentery
cured was bv taking one sioonfuf of the Pain
Killer in one’ gill of milk and nohuses stirred
well together imd drank hot, at tbe same lime
bathing-the bowels freely with medicine. Let
the dese be repeated every hour until the patient
”13 relicv*ed« *
• if every person who has reason to fear this
disease would provide themselves a bottle
of this medicine, and use as occasion required, we
believe a great amount of suffering and sickness
would be saved. . je!2—2m
