REPUBLICAN peatform.
The National Republican party of the United States,
assembled in National Convention, in Hie city of Chi
cago, on the 20tb day of May, 18(18, make the following
Declaration of Principles i
lat. We congratulate the country on the assured suc
cess of the reconstruction policy of Congress, a?
evinced by the adoption, in a majority of the States
lately in rebellion, of Constitutions securing equal civil
and political rights to all, and regard It as the duty of
the Government to sustain those institutions,.ami to
prevent the people of such States from being remitted
to a state of anarchy.
2d. The guarantee«.by Congress, of equal suffrage to
all loyal men in the South was demanded by every con
sideration of public safety, of gratitude and of Jwtice,
and must be maintained, whpe the question of suffrage
in all the loyal States properly belongs to the people of
those States.
3d. We denounce all forms of repudiating as a na
tional crime, and the national honor requires the pay
ment of the public indebtedness, in the ntmbst good
faith,*) all creditors, at home and abroad, not only
according to the letter, but the spirit of the laws
under which it was contracted.
4th. It is due to the labor of tire nation that taxation
should be equalized and reduced as rapidly as the na
tional faith will permit.
Sth. The national debt, contracted, as it has been, for
the preservation of the for all time to comfy
should be extended over a fair period for redemptl<>»,
and it te the duty of Congress io reduce the rate of in
terest thereon, whenever It can honestly be done.
6th. That the best policy ta diminish our burden of
debt is to so improve our credit that capitalists will seek
to loan us money *at lower rates of interest than we now
pay, and must centinue to pay, so long as repudiation,
partial or total, open,or covert, is threatened or sus
pected. , , ,
7th. lire Government of the United. Slates should be
administered with the strictest economy, and the cor
ruptions which have been so shamefully nursed and
fostered by Andrew Johnson call loudly for radical re-
Bth. We profoundly deplore the untimely and tragic
death es Abraham Lincoln, and regret the accession of
Andrew Johnson t<x the PresHtancy, who has acted
treacherously to the people who elected him and the
cause he was pledged to.support» has usurped high
legislative and judicial funetfonfc; has refused to exe
cute the laws; has used Uu>high office to induce other
officers to ignore and violate the Taws; has employed
his executive powers to render insecure the property,
peace, liberty .and. life of the citizen; has abused the
pardoning power; has denounced the Nation*! Legisla
ture as unconstitutional; has snd corruptly
resisted, by every measure in his power, every proper
attempt at the reconstruction of the States lately in re
bellion; has perverted the public patronage into an
engine of wholesale corruption; and has been justly
impeached for high erlmes and misdemeanors, and
properly pronounced guilty thereof by the vote of
thirty five Senators.
1H1). Hie doctrine of Great Britain and Other European
powers, that because a man is once a , subject, he is
always so, must be A resisted at every hazard’ by the
United States, as a relic of the feudal time, not aiithor
ized by the law of nations, and at war with our national
honor and independence. Naeuraiiz.ed citizens are enti
tled to be protected in all tlU&ir rights of cittaeimbip as
though they were natural born, and uo citizen of the
United States, native or naturalized, must be liable to
arrest and imprisonment, by any foreign power, for acts
done, or words spoken, in this country, ana if so arrested
and imprisoned, it is the duty of the Government to
interfere in bls behalf.
10th. Os ail who were faithful in the trials of the late
war, there were none entitled to more especial honor
than the brave soldiers and seamen, who endured the
hardships of the campaimi and cruise, and imperilled
their lives in the service of thh country. The bounties
and pensions provided by lawlbr these brave defenders
of the nation are obliagtw.iu be forgotten. The
widow's and orphans of tire gellant dead are thowards of
the people, a sacred legacy bequeathed to the natives
protecting care.
11th. Foreign immigration, which in the past has
added so much to the wealth, development of resources,
and increase of power of tills nation, the asylum of the
oppressed of all nations, should be fostered and encour
aged by a liberal and just poljcy.
12th. This Convention oetlares its sympathy with all
the oppressed people which are struggling for their
righto.

Asiatic Cholera in China.
ALMOST EVERY CASE
CURED WITH
PAIN KILLER.
Q
Read the following i,ktter from
Rev. R. Telford, Missionary in China, now
visiting his home in Pennsylvania:
Washington, Pa., June2s,lßt>6.
Messrs. Perry Davis & Son, Providence, Ji. I.:
Dear Sirs—During a residence of some ten
years as a Missiouary in Siam and China, I found
yonr vegetable Pain Killer a most valuable
remedy for that fearful sconrge, the Cholera.
In administering the medicine, I found it most
effectual to give a teaspooiifnl of Pain Killer in a
gift of hot, water sweetened with sugar; then,
after about fifteen minutes, begin to give a table
spoOnfnl of the same mixture every minute until
relief Whs obtained. Apply hot applications to
the extremities. Bathe the stomach with Pain
Killer, clear und rub the limbs briskly. Ot those
who had the cholera, aud took the medicine faith
fully in the way stated above, eight out of ten
recovered. Yours, truly,
R TELFORD.
If an attack with Dian bum, Dysentery, or
Cramp Colic, don't delay the use of the Pain
Killer. ’*dld by all medicine dealers. Price, 25
cents, 5(1 cents, and $1 per bottle.
Manhattan, Kansas, April 1-7, 1866.
(lent.temeu— * * ’ I want to say a little
more about, the Pain Killer. I consider it a very
valuable medicine, and always keep it on liana.
I have travelled a good deal since I have been in
Kaunas, ainl never without taking it with me.
In my practice I used it freely for the Asiatic
Cholera, in 1849, aud with lietter success than any
other medicine ; I also used it here Tor cholera tn
1855, with the same good resnlt.
Truly, yours, A. HUNTING, M. D.
Swato, China.
G lwlex a I * * * I regret to say that th<>
cholera has prevailed here of late to a fearful
extent. For the last three weeks, from ten to
fifty or sixty fatal cases each day bus been re
ported. I should add that the Pain Killer, sent
recently from the Mission House. has been nsed
with considerable success during thie epidemic.
If taken in season is generally effectual iu check-.
ing I lie disease, . *

Summer Complaint and Dysentery -
Bowel complaints seem just now to be the
prevailing element, and any medicine that is
everywhere acceptable, and that is reliable, is a
very desiraldiracqiusiliou. From what we have
seen, hoard, and experienced, we believe Davis'
Pain Killer is this desideratum. For the best
method of using it, wo quote from the directions:
“For common bowel complaints, give one tea
spoonful in agin of new milk and molasses, in
equal pans, stirred well together; lessen the dose
for children, according to the age. If the pain Ire
severe, bathe the bowels aud buck with the medi
cine. This mode of treatment is good in cases of
the cholera morbus, sadden stoppages, etc. Re
peat the dose every hour.
"The quickest way I ever saw the dysentery
cured was by taking one spoorifnl of the Pain
Killer in one" gill ot milk and molasses stirred
well together and drank hot. nt the same time
bathing the bowels freelv With medicine. Let
the dose be repeated every hour until the patient
is relieved.'' ■ .
If every person who has reason to fear this
disease would provide theuiselves w ith a bottle
of this medicine, and use as occasion required, we
believe a great, amount of suffering and sickness
would be saved. je!2—2m
