REPUBLICAN PLATFOKH.
The National Republican party of the United .States,
assciublod in National Convention, in the city of Chi
cago, on the 20th day of May, 1868, make the following
Declaration of Principles : '
Ist. We cdngratulate the country on the assured suc
cess of the reconstruction policj’ of Congress, as
evinced by the adoption, in a majority of the States
lately In rebellion, of Constitutions securing equal civil
and political rights to all, aud regard it as the duty of
the Government to sustain those institutions, arid to
prevent the people of such States from being remitted
to a state of anarchy.
2d. The guarantee, by Congress, of equal suffrage to
all loyal men in the South was demanded by every con
sideration of public safety, of gratitude and of Justice,
and must be maintained, while the question of suffrage
In all the loyal States properly belongs to the people of
those States.
3d. We denounce all forms of repudiation as a na
tional crime, and the national honor requires the pay
ment of the public indebtedness, in the utmost good
faith, to all creditors, at home and abroad, not only
according to the letter, but the spirit of the laws
under w hich it was contracted.
4th. It w due to the labor of die nation that taxation
should be equalised and reduced as rapidly as the na
tional faith will permit.
sth. The national debt, contracted, as it has been, for
the preservation of the Union for all time to come,
should be extended over a fair period for redemption,
and it is the duty of Congress to reduce the rate of in
terest thereon, whenever it can honestly be done.
6th. That the best policy to diminish our burden of
.debt is to so improve our credit that capitalists will seek
to loan us money at lower rates of interest than we now
pay, and must continue to pay, so Tong as repudiation,
partial or total, open or covert, is threatened or sus
pected.
7th. The Government of the United States should be
administered with tire strictest economy, aud the cor
ruptions which have been so shamefully nursed and
fostered by Andrew Johnson call loudly for radical re-
Btfe. We profoundly deplore the untimely artd tragic
death of Abraham Lincoln, and regret the accession of
Andrew Johnson to the Presidency, who has acted
treacherously to the people who elected him and the
cause he was pledged to support; has usurped high
legislative and judicial functions; has refused tu exe
cute the laws; has nsed his high office to induce other
officers to ignore and violate the laws; has employed
hts executive powers to render insecure the property,
peace, liberty and life of the citizen; has abused the
pardoning power; has denounced the National Legisla
ture as unconstitutional; has persistently and corruptly
resisted, by every measure in his power, every proper
attempt at the reconstruction of the States lately in re
bellion; hag perverted the public patronage into an
engine of wholesale corruption; aud has been justly
Impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors, and
properly pronounced guilty thereof by the vote of
thirty five Senators.
9th. The doctrine of Great Britain and other European
powers, that because a man is once a subject, he is
always so, must be resisted at every hazard by the
United States, as a relic of the feudal time, notauthor
ized by the law of nations, aud a| war with our national
honor and independence. Naturalized citizens are enti
tled to be pt otepled in all their rights of citizenship as
though they were natural born, ami no citizen of the
United States, native or naturalized, must be liable to
arrest and imprisonment, by any foreign power, for acts
done, or words spoken, in this country, and if sp arrested
and imprisoned, it is the duty of the Government to
interfere in his behalf.
Mth. Os all who were faithful tn the trials of the late
war, there were none entitled to more especial honor
than the brave soldiers u;id seamen, who endured the
hardships of the campaign and cruise, and imperilled
their lives in thd service of the country. 'lhe bounties
and pensions provided by law for these brave defenders
of the nation are obliagtions never to be forgotten. The
widows and orphans of the gallant dead are the wards of
the people, a sacred legacy bequeathed to the nation’s
protecting care.
11th. Foreign immigration, which in the past has
added so much to the wealth, development of fe»or.rces,
and increase of power of this nation, the asylum of the
oppressed of all nations, should be fostered and encour
aged by a liberal and just polices
12tb. This Convention declares its sympathy with all
the oppressed people which arc struggling for- their
rights.

MEDICINAL.
Asiatic Cholera in China.
ALMOST EVERY CASE
CURED WITH
PAIN KILLER.
0
P EAD THE FOLLOWING LETTER FROM
J7k Rev. R. Telford. Missionary in China, now
visiting his home h> Pennsylvania:
Washington, Pa., June 25,1866.
Messrs. Perry Uavis & Son, Providence, R. 1.:
Dear Sirs —During a residence of some teu
years as a Missionary in Siam and China, I found
vonr vegetable Pain Killer a most valuable
remedy for that fearful scourge, the Cholera.
lu administering the medicine, I found it most
effectual to give a teaspoonful of Pain Killer in a
gill of hot "water sweetened with sugar; then,
after aboqt fifteen minutes, begin to give a table
spoonful of the same mixture every minute until
relief was obtained. Apply hot applications to
the extremities. Hattie the stomach with Pain
Killer, clear and rub the limbs briskly. Os those
who bad the cholera, and took the medicine faith
fully in the way stated above, eight out of ten
recovered. Yours, truly,
R TELFORD.
If an attack with Diarrhoea, Dysentery, or
Cramp Colic, don't delay the use of the Pain
Killer. Sold by all medicine dealers Price, 25
cents, sfl cents, and $1 per bottle.
Manhattan, Kansas, April 17,1866.
Gentlemen — * * * I want to say a little
more about, the Pain Killer. 1 consider it a very
valuable medicine, and always keep it on band.
I have travelled a good deal since I have been in
Kansas, and never without taking it with me,
lu my practice I used it freely for the Asiatic
Cholera, in 1849, and with better success than any
other medicine ; 1 also used it here for cholera in
1855, with the same goad result.
Truly, yours, A. HUNTING, M. D.
Swato, China.
Cholera I***l regret Jo say that the
cholera has prevailed here of. late to a fearful
extent. For the last three weeks, from ten to
fifty or sixty fatal cases each day has been re
ported. I should add that the Pain Killer, sent
recently from the Mission House, has been used
with considerable success during thia epidemic.
If taken in season is generally effectual in check
ing the disease.
Rs v. CHARLES HARDINIG,
Bbolapore, India.
{.From the Portland Monthly.)
Summer Complaint and Dysentery.
Bowel complaints seem just uOw to be the
prevailing element. Mid any medicine that is
everywhere acceptable, and that is reliable, is a
very desirable acquisition. From what we have
seen, heard, and experienced, we believe Davis'
Pain Killer is this desideratum. For -the best
method of using it, we quote from the directions:
“For common bowel complaints, give one tea
spoonful in a gill of new milk and molasses, in
equal parts, stirred well togetlier; lessen the dose
for children, according to the age. If the pain be
severe, bathe the bowels anil back with the medi
cine. This mode of treatment is good in cases oi
the cholera morbus, sudden step pages, etc. Re
peat the dose every hour.
"The quickest way I ever saw the dysentery
cured was by taking one spoonful of the Pain
Killer in one gill of milk and molasses stirred
well together uud drank hot, at the same time
bathing the bowels freely with medicine. Let
the dose be repeated’ every hour nntil the patient
is relieved.''
If every person who has reason to fear this
disease would provide themselves with a bottle
of this medicine, and use as occasion required, we
believe a great amount of suffering and sickness
would be saved. jel2—2m 1
