M® PUBLICAN PLATFORM.
The National Republican party of the United States*
assembled In National CohvetrtWß, in the etty of Chi •
cago, on the 20th day of May, 18As, make the foHowing
Declaration of Principles :
J st. We congratulate the country on the assured suc
cess of the reconstruction policy of Congress, as
evinced by the adoption, in a majority of the States
lately in rebellion, of Constitutions securing equal civil
and political rights to all,/nid regard it as the duty of
the Government to Sustain those institutions, and to
prevent the people of such States from being remitted
to a state at anarvhyf- '
Ud. The guarantee, by Congress, of equal suffrage to
ail loyal nieu the South was demanded by every con
sideration stfrly, of gratitude and of justice,
and muetAb inaintainml, while the question of suffrage
in all States properly belongs to the people of.
those States.
3d. We denounce all forms of repudiation as a na
tional crime, and the Rational honor requires tire pay
ment of the public indebtedness, in the utmost good
faith, to alt creditors, at home and abroad, not only
according to the letter, but the spirit of the laws
under which it was contrasted.
4tli. It is due to the labor of the nation that taxation
should be equalized and reduced as rapidly as the na
tion al faith will permit.
sth. The national debt, contracted, as it has been, for
the preservation of the Union for all time to come,
should be extended over a fair period for redemption,
and it is the duty of Congress to reduce the rate of in
terest thereon, whenever it can honestly be done.
6th. That tha best policy to duninidi our burden of
debt is to so improve our credit that capitalists wiU seek
to loan us money at lower rates of interest .than we now
pay, and must continue to pay, so long as repudiation,
partial or total, open or covert, is threatened or sus
pected.
7th. The Government of the United States should be
administered with the strictert economy, the cor
ruptions which have so shamefully nursed and
fostered by Andrew'Johnson call loudly for ridisal re
form. w
Bth. W’c profoundly deplore the untimely and tragic
death of Abraham Uncoln, aud regret the accession of
Andrew Johpson to the Presidency, who has acted
treacherously to the people who elected him and the
ctiuee he was pledged to support; has usurped high
legislative apd judicial functions; has refnacd to exe
cute the laws; hat; used his high otiioe to induce/ other
officers to ignore and violate the laws; lias employed
bis executive powers to render insecure tho propei ty,
peace, liberty and life of the-ciliaen ; has abused the
paMoidhgpower; ha*denounced the National legisla
tures unconstitutional; has perststnitly and corruptly
resisted, by every measure in his power, every proper
attempt al the reconstruction of the States lately in re
bellion ; has perverted the public patronage into an
engine of wholesale corruption; and has been justly
impeached for high cYimes and . misdemeanors, and
properly pronounced guilty thereof by the vote of
thirty-five Senators. %
fftfi. The doctfine of Great. Britain and other European
powers, that because a man is once a subject, be is
always so, roust be resisted at every hazard by the
United Slates, as a relic of the feudal time, not author
ized by the law of nations, and at war with our national
honor and independence. Naturalized citizens are enti
tled to be piotectedin all their rights of citizenslnp as
though they were natural born, and no citizen of the
United States, native or naturalized, must be liable to
arrest and imprteonroeut,by any fortign power, for acts
done*, or words spoken, in this country, and if so arrested
and imprisoned, it iS the duly of rhe Government to
interfere in his behalf.
10th. Os «H who were faithful in the trials of the late
war, there were none entitled to more especial honor
than the brave soldiers and. seamen, who endured the
hardships pf.the campaign and croise. aud imperilled
their fives in the service of the country. The bounties
and pensions provided by law for these brave defenders
of the nation are obltagtions never to be forgotten. The
widows and orphans Os the gallant dead are the wards of
the people, a sacred legacy bequeathed to the nation's
protecting care.
11th. Foreign immigration, which in the past has
<idded so much to the wealth, development of resources,
and increase Os powet of this natinu, the gsylum of the
oppressed of all nations, shoo'd be fostered and encour
aged by a liberal and just policy.
12th. 'Riis Convention deciares its sympathy with all
the oppressed people which are struggling for their
rights.

Messrs. Perry Ltavisd: Son, Providence, R. 1.:
Dear Rua -During a residence of some ten
years as a Missionary in Siam and China, I fouud
your vegetable Pain Killer a most valuable
remedy far that fearfql roomie, the Cholera.
-Ju administering the medicine, I found it most
effectual to give a teaspoonful of Pain Killer in a
gill of hot water sweetened with sugar; then,
after about fifteen minutds, begin to givfc a table
spoonful id the same mixture every minute until
relief was obtained. Apply hot applications to
the extremities. Bathe the stomacli with Paiu
Killer, clear and Tab the limbs briskly. Os those
who had the cholera. and took the medicine faith
fully tn the way stated iiboVe, eight out ol tin

Cramp Colic, don't delay the. use ut the Pam
Killer. Sold' by all medicine dealers Price, 25
cents, 50 cents,"and fl per bottle.
Manhattan, Kansas, April 17, 1866.
Gentlemen— » • • I want to say a little
more about the Pain Killer. J consider it a eery
valuable medicine, and always keep it on hand.
I have travelled a good deal since I have been hi
Kansas, and never without taking it with me,
In my practice I used it freely for the Asiatic
Cholera, in 1819, and with better success than any
other medicine-, I also used it here for cholera in
1855, with the same goad result.
Trnty, yours, A HUNTING, M. D.
Bwato,.China'.
Cholera! * * * 1 regret to say that the
cholera lias prevailed here of fate to a fearful
extent. For the last three weeks, from ten to
fifty or sixty fatal cases each day has been re
ported, I should add that the Pain Killer, sent
recently f rom the Mission House, has been used
with considerable success during this epidemic.
If taken in season is generally effectual in check
ing tlie disease.

[From the Portland Monthly;]
Summer Complaint and Dysentery.
Bowel complaints seem just now to be the
prevailing element, and auy medicine that is
everywhere acceptable, and that Is reliable, is a
very desirable acquisition. From what we have
seen, heard, and experienced, we believe Davis'
Pain Killer is this desideratum. For the best
method of using it, we quote from the directions:
“For common bowel complaints, give one tea
spoonfulin a gill of new milk and molasses, in
equal pane, Mined well together; lessen the dose
lor children, ateurding to the age. If the pam lie
severe, bathe the bowels and back with tlie medi
cine. This mode of treatment is good in cases of
the cholera morbus, sudden stoppages, etc. Re
peat the dose every honr.
•‘The quickest, way 1 ever saw the dysentery
cored was bv taking one spoonful of the Pam
Killer in one" gill of milk and molasses stirred
well together and drank hot, at the same time
bathing the bowels fi-eelv with tjiedirine Let
the dose be repeated every IrtmrTmtil the patient
is relieved."
If every person who ha» reason io fear this
disease would provide themselves with a hottie
of this meiHriiii’, and use ar. occasion required, we
believe a great amount, of suftVr'mg and sickness
would lie saved. je!2—2m
