The National Republican party of the United States,
assembled in National Convention, in the city of Chi
cago, on the 20th day of May, 1868, make the following
Declaration of Principles :
Ist. We congratulate the country on the assured suc
cess et the reconstruction policy of Congress, aa
evinced by the adoption, In a majority of the States
lately in rebellion, of Constitutions securing equal civil
and political rights to all, and regard it as the duty of
the Government to sustain those institutions, and to
prevent the people of such States from being remitted
to a state of anarchy.
2d. The guarantee, by Congress, of equal suffrage to
all loyal men in the South was demanded by every con
sideration of public safety, of gratitude and of justice,
end roust be maintained, while the question of suffrage
In all the loyal States properly belongs to the people of
those States. . ,
3d. We denounce all forms of repudiation as a na
lional crime, and the national honor requires the pay
ment of the public indebtedness, in the utmost good
faith, to all creditors, at home and abroad, not only
according to the letter, but the spirit of the laws
under which it was contracted.
4th. It is due to the labor of the nation that taxation
should be equalized and reduced qs rapidly as the na
tional faith will permit.
sth. The national debt, contracted, as it has been, lor
the preservation of the Union for all time to come,
should be extended over a fair period for redemption,
and it is the duty of Congress to reduce the rate of in
terest thereon, whenever it can honestly be done.
6th. That the best policy tn diminish our burden of
debt is to so improve our credit that capitalists will seek
to loan us money at lower rates of interest than we now
pay, and must continue to pay, so long as repudiation,
partial or total, open or covert, is threatened or sus
pected.
'th. The government of the United States should be
ninistered with the strictest economy, and the cor
ruptions which have been so shamefully nursed and
fostered by Andrew Johnson call loudly for ridical re
form.
Sth. We profoundly deplore the untimely and tragic
death of Abraham Lincoln, and regret the accession of
Andrew Johnson to the Presidency, who has acted
treacherously to the people who elected him and the
cause he was pledged to support; has usurped high
legislative and judicial functions; bits refused to exe
cute the laws; has used bis high office to induce other
officers to Ignore and violate the laws; hap employed
his executive powers to render insecure the property,
peace, liberty and life of the citizen; has abused the
pardoning power; has denounced the National legisla
ture as unconstitutional; has persistently and corruptly
resisted, by every measure in his power, every proper
attempt at the peconstrnction of the States lately in re
bellion; has perverted the public patronage into ail
engine of wholesale corruption; and has been justly
impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors, and
properly pronounced guilty thereof by- the vote of
thirty-five Senators. .
2th. The doctrine of Great Britain and other European
powers, that because a man la. once * subject, he is
always so, must be resisted at every hazard by the
tutted States, as a relic of the feudal time, not auiltor
ued by the law of nations, and at war with our national
binor and independence. Naturalised citizens are anti*
ed to be protected in alt their rights of citizenship as
' sough they were natural born, and no citizen of the
luted States, native or naturalized, must be liable to
J’reit and imprisonment, by any foreign power, for acts
lone, or words spoken, in this country, ana if so arrested
•nd imprisoned, it is the duty of the Government to
"'Vjro in hie behalf.
10th. Os all who were faithful in the trials of the lato
there were none entitled to more especial honor
than the brave soldiers and seamen, who endured the
, tl,r !»hips of the campaign and cruise, and imperilled
l " lr ’'** 'p the sewice of the country. The bounties
‘“" P'nsioMprovided by law for these brave defenders
’, ~ e B *b° n are obliagtions never to be forgotten. The

ALMOST EVERY CASE
CURED WITH
PAIN' KILLER.
Read the following letter from
Rov.U. Telford. Miesionaiy in China, now
visiting his home in Peimsylvania:
Washington, Pa., Jun«4S, 1866.
Messrs. Perri/ Davis A Son. Provideieee.R.Jt:
Dear Sirs-During a residence < Y some ten
years as a Missionary in Siam aud China, I found
your vegetable Pain Killer a most valuable
remedy for that fearful scourge, the Cholera.
In administering the medicine, I found it most
effectual to give a teaspoonful of Panj Killei" in a
gill of hot water sweetened with sugar; then,
after about fifteen minutes, begin to give a table
spoonful ot the same mixtuie every, minute uutil
relief was obtained. Apply hot applications to
the extremities. Bathe the stomach with Pain
Killer, cleat" aud rub the limbs briskly. QI those
who hud the cholera, and took the medicine faith
fully in the way stated above, eight out- of teu
recovered. Yours, truly,
R TELFORD.
If au attack with Diarrlicea, Dysentery, or
Cramp CWic, don't delay the use ol the' Pain
Killer. Sold by all medicine dealers Price, 25.
cents, 50 cents, and $1 ;>er bottld.
Manhattan, Kansas April 17, 1860.
Gentlemen— * « • I want to say a little
more about tho I‘ain Killer. I consider it a verg
valuable medicine, and always keep it on band.
I have travelled a good deal since J have been in
Kansas, and never without taking it with me,
In my practice I used it. freely for the Asiatic
Cholera, in 184'J, and with better success than any
other medicine ; I also used it here tor cholera ia
1855, with the mime good result.
Truly, yours, A. HUNTING, M. D.
Swato, China.
Cholera I***l regret to say that the
cholera has prevailed here of late to” a fearful
extent. For the last three weeks, from teu to
fifty or sixty fatal cases each day has beeu re
ported. I should add that, the Pain Killer, sent
recently from the Mission House, has been used
with considerable success during this epidemic.
If taken iu season is generally effectual in check
ing the disease.
Rev. CHARLES HARDINIG.
Shvlapore, India.
[From the Portland Mohtbly.l
Summer Complaint aad Dysentery,
Bowel complaints seem [net now to be the
prevailing element, and any" medicine that is
everywhere acceptable, and that is reliable, is a
very desirable acquisition. From what we have
seen, beard, and experienced, we believe Davis'
Pain Killer is this desideratum. For the best
method of nsingit, we quote from the directions:
“For common bowel complaints, give one tea
spoonful iu a gill of new milk and molasses, in
equal parts, stirred well together; lessen the dose
tor children, according to the age. If the pain be
severe, bathe the bowels aud back with the medi
cine. This mode of treatment is good in cases of
tiie cholera morbus, sudden stoppages,- etc. Re
peat the dose every hour.
“The quickest way I ever saw the dysentery
cured was by taking one sptg'tiful of the Pain
Killer in one gill of milk awl molasses stirred
well together and drank h?t s ßt the same time
bathing the bowels freely with medicine. Let
the dose be repeated every hour uutil the patient
is relieved.’’
If every person who has reason to fear this
disease would provide themselves with a bottle
of this medicine, and use as occasion required, we
believe a great amount of suffering and sickness
would be saved. je!2—2m
