The National Republican party of the United States,
assembled in National Convention, in the city of Chi
cago, on theSOth day of May, 1868, make the following
Declaration of Principles :
Ist. We congratulate the country on the assured suc
cess of the reconstruction policy of Congress, a~‘
evinced by the adoption, in a majority of the States
latelyin rebellion, of Constitutions securing equal civil
and political rights to all, and regard it as the, duty of
the Government to sustain those institutions, and to
prevent the people of such States from being remitted
to a state of anarchy.
2d. The guarantee, by Congress, of eqtfat suffrage to
all loyal men in the South was demanded by every con
sideration of public safety, of gratitude and of justice,
and must be maintained, while the question of suffrage
in all the Joyal States properly belongs tcijthe people of
We denounce all forms of repudiation as a na
tional crime, arid the national honor requires the pay
ment of the public indebtedness, Use utmost good
faMh, to all creditors, at home and abroad, not only
according to the letter, but the spirit of the laws
under which it was contracted.
4th. It is due to the labor of the nation that taxation
should be equalized and reduced as rapidly as the na
tional faith will permit.
’ Sth. The national debt, contracted, as it has been, for
the preservation of the Union for all time to come,
should be extended over a fair period for redemption,
and it is the duty of Congress to reduce the rate of in
terest thereon, whenever it can honestly be done.
6th. That the best policy to diminish our burden of
debt is to so improve our credit that capitalists will seek
’to loan us money at lower rates of interest than we now
pay, and must continue to pay, so long as repudiation,
partial or total, open or covert, is threatened or sus
pected.
7th. The Government of the United States should be
administered with the strictest economy, and the cor
ruptions whieh have been so shamefully nursed and
fostered by Andrew Johnson call loudly for radical re
form. * .
Bth. We profoundly deplore the untimely and tragic
death of Abraham Lincoln, and regret the accession of
Andrew Johnson to the Presidency, who has acted
treacherously to the people who elected him aiid.fhe
cause he was pledged to support; has usurped high
legislative and judicial functions; has refused to exe
cute the laws; has used his high office to induce other
officers to ignore and violate the laws; has employed
his executive powers to render insecure the property,
peace, liberty and life of the citizen: has abused the
pardoning power; has denounced the National Legisla
ture as has persistently and corruptly
resisted, by every measure in his power, every proper
attempt at the reconstruction of the States lately in re-,
bclticn; has perverted the public patronage into an
engine of wholesale corruption; ant has been justly
inipdfched for high crimes and misdemeanors, and
properly pronounced guilty thereof by the vote of
thirty-five Senators.
9th. The doctrine of Great Britain and other European
powers, that because a man is once a subject, he is
always so, must be resisted at every hazard by the
United States, as a relic of the feudal time, not author
ized by the law of nations, and at war with our national
honor and independence. Naturalized citizens are enti
tled to be protected in all their rights of citizenship as
though they were natural born, and no citizen of the
United States, native or naturalized, must be liable to
arrest and imprisonment, by any foreign power, for acts
'lone, or words spoken, in this country, and if so arrested
and Imprisoned, it is the duty of the Government to
interfere in his behalf.
10th. Os all who were faithful in the trials of the late
war, there were none entitled to more especial honor
than the brave soldiers and seamen, who endured the
hardships of the campaign and cruise, and imperilled
their lives in the service of tho country. The bounties
and pensions provided by law for these brave defenders
of the nation are obliagtions never to be forgotten. The
widows aud orphans of the gallant dead are the wards of
the people, a sacred legacy bequeathed to the nation’s
protecting care*
11th. Foreign immigration, which in the past has
added so much to the wealth, development of resources,
and increase of power of this nation, the asylum of the
oppressed of all nations, should be fostered and encour
aged by a liberal and jtfst policy.
12th. This Convention declares its sympathy with all
the oppressed people which are struggling for their
rights.

MEDICINAL
Asiatic Cholera in China,
ALMOST EVERY CASE
CURED WITH
PAIN KILL Ell.
P EAD THE FOLLOWING LETTER FROM
I k Rev. R. Telford. Missionary in China, now
visiting his liouie in Pennsylviinm:
Washington, Pa., June 25,18641.
Messrs. Perry DavieASSou, Providence,R. I.:
Dear Sira -During a residence of some ten
years as a Missionary in Siam aud China, I fonnd
your vegetable Pain Killer a most valuable
remedy for that fearful scourge, the Cholera.
In administering the medicine, 1 found it most
effectual to give a teaepoonfnl of Pain Killer in a
gill of hot water ewcctem d wifli sugar; then,
after about fifteen minutes, begin to give a table
spoonful oi the same mixture every minute until
relief was obtained. Apply hot applications to
tlie extremities. Bathe the stomach with Pain
Killer, clear and rub the limbs briskly. Ot those
who had the cholera, and took the medicine faith
fully in the way stated above, eight out of ten
recovered. Yours, truly.
R TELFORD.
If an attack with Diarrhoea, Dysentery, or
Cramp Colic, don’t delay the use ol .the Pain
Killer. Sold by all inetilcine dealers. Price, 25
cents, 50 cents, and $ 1 per bottle.
Manhattan, Kansas, April 17,1866.
Gentlemen.— » » * 1 want to say a little
mote about the Pain Killer. I consider it a eery
valuable medicine, and always keep it, ou hand.
I have travelled a good deal since 1 nave been in
Kansas, and never without taking it with me.
In my practice I used it freely for the Asiatic
Cholera, in 1813, and with bettor success Rian any
other medicine; 1 also used it hero for cholera in
1855, with the same goad result..
Truly, yours, A. HUNT!NG, M. D.
Swato, China.
Choicia I * * * I regret to say that the
ohofera has prevailed here of late to a fearful
extent. For the last three weeks, from ten to
fifty or sixty fatal cases each day lias been re
ported. 1 should add that the Pain Killer, sent
reeently from the Mission House, has beta used
with considerable sticcess during this epidemic.
If taken in season is generally effectual in check
ing the disease,
Itev. CHARLES HAKDINIG,
Shoiapore, India.
[From the Portland Monthly.l
Summer Complaint and. Dysentery.
Bowel complaints seem just now to be the
prevailing element, and any medicine that, is
everywhere acceptable, and that isreliable; is a
very desirable acquisition. From what we have
seen, heard, and we. believe Qaris'
Pain Killer is this desideratum. For the beet
method of using it, we quote from the diresituus:
“For common bowel complaints, give one lea
spoonful in agill of new milk and molasses, iu
equal parts, stirred well together; lessen the dose
for children, according to tlio age. If the pain be
severe, Lathe the bowels aud back with the medi
cine. This mode of treatment is good in cases of
the cholera morbus, sudden stoppages, etc. Re
peat the dose every hour.
“The quickest way I ever saw the dysentery
cured was by taking one spoonful of the Pain
Killer in one gill of milk and molasses stirred
.well together and drank hot, at the same time
bathing the bowels freely with medicine. Let
the dose be. repeated every hour uutil the patient
is relieved.’’
U' every who Iras reaeon Vo fear this
disease wotild provide themselves with a bottle
of this medicine, and use as occasion required, we
believe a great amount of Battering and sickness
would be saved. jel2—2m
