KKI’UIM.IUAN I’LATFOKM.
The National Republican party of the United State-,
assembled in National Convention, in the city of Chi
cago, on Ute 20lh day of May, 1868, make the following
Declaration of Principles :
lot. We congratulate the country on Hie assured suc
cess of the reconstruction policy of Congress, as
evinced by the adoption, in a majority of the States
lately in rebellion, of Constitutions securing equal civil
and political rights to all, and regard it as the duty of
the Government to sustain those institutions, and to
prevent the people of such States from being remitted
to a state of anarchy.
2d. The guarantee, by Congress, of equal, suffrage to
all loyal men in the South was demanded, by every coa
suleration of public safety, of gratitude and of Justice,
and must bo maintained, while the question of suffrage
In all the loyal States properly belongs to the peoptFof
those States.
3d. We denounce all forms of repudiation as a na
tional crime, and the national honor requires the pay
ment of the public indebtedness, tn the utmost good
faiOt, to all creditors, at home and abroad, not only
according to the letter, but the spirit of the laws
under which it was contracted.
4th. It is due to the labor of the nation that taxation
should be equalized and reduced as rapidly as the na
tional faith will permit.
sth. The national debt, contracted, as it has been, for
the preservation of the Union for all time to come,
should.be extended over a fair period for redemption,
and it is the duty of Congress to reduce the rate of in
terest thereon, whenever it can honestly be done.
6th. That the best policy to diminish our burden of
debt is to so improve our credit that capitalists will seek
to loan us money at lower rates of interest than we now
pay, and must continue to pay, so long as repudiation,
partial or total, open or covert, is threatened or sus
pected.
7th. The Government of the Uifltcd States should be
administered with the strictest economy, and the cor
ruption which have been so shamefully nursed and
fostered by Andrew Johnson call loudly for radical re
form.
Bth. We profoundly deplore the untimely and tragic
death of Abraham Lincoln, and regret the accession of
Andrew Johnson to the Presidency, who has acted
treacherously to the people who elected him and the
cause he was pledged to support; has usurped high
legislative and judicial functions; has refused to exe
cute the laws; has used his high office to induce other
officers to ignore and violate the laws; has employed
his executive powers to render insecure the property,
peace, liberty and life of the dttaen; has abused the
pardoning power; has denounced the National Legisla
ture as unconstitutional; has persistently and corruptly
resisted, by everyjneasure tn his power, everv proper
attempt atthe reconstruction of the States lately in re
bellion; has perverted the public patronage into an
engine of wholesale corruption; and has been Justly
impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors, ami
properly pronounced guilty thereof by the vote of
thirty five Senators.
9th. The doctrine cd Great Britain and other European
powers, that because a man is once a subject, he is
always so, must be resisted at every hazard by the
United States, as a relic of the feudal time, not author
ized by the law of nations, and at war with onr national
honor and independence. Naturalized citizens are enti
tled to be protected in all their rights of dlizemjup as
though they were natural bom, and no citisen of the
United States, native or naturalized, mu nt be liable to
i arrest and imprisonment, by any foreign power, for acts
done, or words spoken, in this country, and if so attested
' and imprisoned, it is the duty of the Government to
1 interfere in his behalf.
10th. Os al! who were faithful in the trials of the late
war, there were none entitled to more especial honor
than the brave soldiers and seamen, who endured the
I hardships of tlie campaign and cruise, and imperilled
. their lives in the service of the country. The bounties
and pension* provided by law for these brave defenders
‘ of the nation are obliagtions never to be forgotten. The
• widows and orphans of the gallant dead are the wards of
I the people, a sacred legacy bequeathed to the nation’s
protecting care.
11th. Foreign immigration, which i n the past has
. added so much to the wealth, development of resources,
’ and increase of power of this nation, the ahyhim of the
• oj>pre»sed of all nations, should be fostered and encour-
, aged by a liberal aiul just policy. ,
12lu. This Conventiop declares its sympathy with all
’ the oppressed people which are struggling for their
( rights.

Asiatic Cholera in China.
ALMOST EVERY CASE
CURED WITH
PAIN KILLER.
Read the following letter from
Rev. R. Telford. Missionary in China, now
visiting his home in Pennsylvania:
Washington, Pa., Jane2s, 1866.
Meters. Perry Davit <fc Son, Providence, Ji. 1. :
Dear Sir*-—Daring a residence of some ten
years as a Missionary in Siam and China, I ton nd
your vegetable Pain Killer a most valuable
remedy for that fearful scourge, the Cholera.
In administering the medicine, I found it ujost
effectual to give a teas|>oonful of Pain Killer in a
gill of hot water uweeteued with sugar; tlleti,
after about fifteen minidfs, begin to give a table
spoonful of the same fixture every minute until
relief was obtained. Apply hot application, to
the extremities. Bathe the stomach with Pain
Killer, clear and rub the limbs briskly. Os those
who hall the cholera, and took the medicine faith
fully in the way stated above, eight out' of ten
recovered. Yours, truly,
r Telford.
If an attack with Diarrhoea, Dysentery, or
Cramp Colic, don’t delay, the use of the Pain
Killer. Sold by all medicine dealers. Price, 25
cents, 50 cents, and 81 per bottle.
Manhattax, Kansas, April 17, 1866.
Gentlemen— * * ' I want to say a little
more about the Pain Killer. I consider it a very
valuable medicine, aud always keen it on hand.
I have travelled a good deal since I have been in
Ramms, and never without taking it with me.
In my practice I used it freely for the Asittie
Cholera, in 1810, and with better success than any
other mediciae ; I also used it here for cboArg in
1855, with the same good result
Truly, yours, A. HUNTING, SI).
.
Cholera! * * * I regret to the
cholera has prevaiW her* of late
extent. For the last three weeks, ffMtui to
fifty or sixty fatal cases each day has m-en re
ported. I should add that the Pain Killer, seat
recently from the Mission House, has been used
with considerable ssccesa during this epidemic.
If taken in season IB generally effectual in check
ing the disease,

Summer Complaint and Dy&apery.
Bowel complaints seem just now the
prevailing element, and any is
everywhere acceptable, and that is is a
very desirable acquisition. From have

Pain Killer is this desideratum. ‘Fer we best
method of using it, we quote from tbe directions:
“For common bowel compkrints, give one tea
spoonful in a gill of new milk and molasses, in
equal parte, stirred well together -, lessen tbe dose
tor children, according to the age. If the pain be
severe, bathe the bowels and hack with the medi
cine. This mode of treatment is good in cases of
the cholera morbus, sudden- stopjiages, etc. Re
peat the dose every hour.
“The quickest way I ever saw the dysentery
cured wits by taking one spoonful of the Pain
Killer in one* gill of milk and molasses stirred
well together and drafik het, at the same lime
bathing the bowels freely with medicine. Let
the dose be repeated every hear until the patient
is relieved.’’
If every person who h»s reason u> sear 1 this
disease would provide themselves with a bottle
of this medicine, and use as occasion required, we
believe a great amount of suffering and sickness
would be saved. je!2—2m
