He Again Attempts to Ratify the Neminu'
tions —The Result.
Post Offis, Confkdrit X Roads, I
(Wich is in the State uv Kentucky), >
July 31, 1808. )
We hed last nite a ratification meeting at
the Corners which started out gloriously,
but didn’t end so happily ez it mite. I hed
gone to a good deal uv trouble about it, and
hed made arrangements for a feast uv reason
and a flow uv sole ekallcd by few ratifica
tions and surpassed by none.
The blessed Deacon, MePelter and Jssaker
Gavkt, who exspect respectively to hold the
posishens uv Assessor, Collector and Whisky
Inspector for this district, come down
handsomely with the funds, enough to enable
me to dekorate the jiostoflis with flags and
transparencies, and* myself with a pair uv
ready made pants, which 1 muddied con
siderable to make em ole so that they shood
not suspect ther funds hed been applied in
that way. Human nacher is a inscrutable
mystery. They wood objeck did they know
I hed clothed myself with ther money,
instead uv wastin it on taller caudles and
sicb, wich burn out and leave nothing
behind.
I wuz economikle in my expeuditoors, ur
ruther but little expense wuz nesesary. Dcsirin
to wake the enthoosism uv the Democrisy, I
procoored a passel uv Confedrit battle flags,
wich the returned heroes had brot home With
em, and hed the tallismanic words, “Seymore
and Blare” painted across em. The effeck
wuz gorgus 1 Ez nite approach! I hed the
transparencies saved over from a celebrashen
wich hed bin held after the battle uv Chicka
mauga lighted up. The enthoosiasm, ez the
populace saw these, and listened to Captain
MePelter, ez he red em to dm, wuz over
powerip. How they cheered ez the words
tlasht out into the nite, “Southern Rites,
Southern Men and a Southern Government!”
“Death to Northern Hirelinsl" “Down with
tlie Gorilla Linkin!” ‘ No quarter to Federal
Invaders!” And when Boregard’s black
flag, onto wich “Seymore and Blare” wuz
painted in red letters, wuz unfurled, there
arose sich cheers lor the nominees uv the
Noo York convenshun ez I hed never beerd
before, nor expect to agaiu.
At this time, jist ez everythin wuz a
gittin red hot, the trouble commenced.
Pennibecker, wich runs our biggest and
best distillery, jumpt onto the platform at
my suggestiu, and perposed three cheers
for Seymour and Greenbax, and three
groans "for the bondholders. The crowd,
with troo Dimekratic docility, was agoiu to
cheer, when Bassom, who has some 5:205,
riz and swore that he’d be d—d cf that
should be. “Governor Seymour is in favor
of payin the Nashnel indebtedness, princi
ple and interest, in gold. Reed his speech
at the Cooper Institoot.”’
“Is he? is he?” shouted Pennibecker,
springing onto the platform, “is he ? Read
the pintform which he accepts!”
"Don’t Belmont and the Eastern bankers
support him?” yelled Bascom.
"Don’t Vallandygum, Pendleton, Brick
Pon- -oy and dirty .shirt Dean support him?”
yelled Pennibecker.
“Yoor doctrin,” sed Bascom, excitedly,
“is a d—d swindle—a peece uv thcevin
which a Arab wood be ashamed uv, and
Seymour sed so."
“Yoor proposishen is a outrage onto a
opprest people, a grindin uv em into the
earth under the iron heels uv bloated aristo
c»ts and pampered sons uv luxury, and the
platform Seymour stands onto sez so,”
shouted Pennibecker.
“Yoor a swindler,” excitedly yelled Bas
com; whereupon they clinched and rolled
ors the platform, titely huggiu, and makin
extraordinary physiklb efforts at injoorin
each other.
To direct the attenshun uv the populis
from this untoward circumstance, I rckested
Issaker to sing out three cheers for Blare.
“Three cheers for Blare I” sung out
Issaker, “the Missouri statesman, who will
rid us uv Freedmen’s Burow and military
Tool1”
“Three greaus for Blare 1” yelled Punt, “a
Ablishinist, and Linkon hirelin, wich shot
my unkle in Missoury and burnt my grand
mother’s house near Vixburg!”
“He ain’t no Ablishinist,” exclaimed
Issaker : “reed his letters.”
“It’s difficult to say Wat he is to-day, but
I’ll swgre to it he wuz three years ago ; but
it makes no difference. I swore four years
ago to lick any man vdio hurrahed for any
member uv the Blare family.”
And this infooriated wretch pounced onto
Issaker, uud they rolled ors the stand to join
Bascom and Pennibecker, who hedn’t settled
their onpleasantnis yet.
Before it ended Deekin Pograiu and
Kernel MePelter got to arguin ez to the
propriety uv recognizin niggers in the ranks
uv the party, the Deekin takin one side and
MePelter the other The passions uv these
estimable gentlemen wuz arouzed somewhat,
and before I cood interfere they hed each
other by the throte and rolled ors onto the
ground beneath the platform. I sprang down
to seperatc em, when MePelter turned upon
me, and would have sacrificed me on the
spot, but the Corners rusht ez a man to save
me. Ez I owe the most uv em, lam entirely
safe here, and ez I shel be ontil I pay my
debts, I shel -never die uv violence.
At this pint the site became general.
Some uv the people sided with Baseom,
some uv em with Pennibecker (akkordin ez
they bought whisky, by the barl or by the
drink), and the balance uv em assisted Punt
and Issaker Gavitt, ez their incliuashnn
prompted em. In the melee the platform,
flag and transparencies wuz tore down,
nearly breakin my leg, fur wich I wuz
insuffisltently remunerated by the handker
chiers I borrered from the prostrate com
batants, under cover uv assistin uv em. to
rize.
After the scrimmage wuz over, Pollock
and Bigler came, with three niggers, into
Bascom’s, where we wuz lepairin damages,
which reraarkt that they hed held a meetiiv,
and hed past resolhshuns thankin the Lord
devoutly for heven releeved the Republikan
party of tfie Blair family, and sympathizin
with the Democrisy wich hed receeved em;
and also acknowledgin the obligashun the
colored men of the nashun were under to
the Democrisy for the Jrttndsoine manner in
wich they hod treated' Joo Williams, the
Afrikin deligatc to the Noo York convon
shun, ez the selection uv a nigger ez a
delegate and with him on terms
uv ekality, wusPa’step in the direction uv
universal brotherhood wich wuz cheerio.
This insultin message, delivered to men
wich wuz a patwiin up ther faces and
washin ors the bldod uv a politikle conflict
wuz the reverse uv soothin.
The ratificashun wasn’t altogether a
success, bdt we shel try it agin alter time
hez softened the asperities engendered by
the recent conflick, 4ind the candidates hov
hed time todit'theirselves and their records’
to the platform. The Corners kin be
counted on.

REPUBLICAN PLATFOHM.
The Rational Republican party of the United States,
assembled in National Convention, in the city of Chi
cago, on the 20th day of May, 1808, make the following
Declaration of Principles :
Ist. We congratulate the country on the assured suc
cess of the reconstruction policy of Congress, as
evinced by the adoption, in a majority of the States
lately in rebellion, of Constitutions securing equal civil
and political rights to all, and regard it as the duty of
the Government to sustain those institutions, and to
prevent the people of such States from being remitted
to a state of anarchy.
2d. The guarantee, by Congress, of equal suffrage to
all loyal men in the South wae demanded by every con
sideration of public safety, of gratitude and of justice,
and must be maintained, while the question of suffrage
in all the loyal States properly belongs to the people of
those States.
3d. We denounce all forms of repudiation an a na
tional crime, and the national honor requires the pay
ment of the public indebtedness, in the utmost good
faith, to all creditors, at home and abroad, not only
according to the letter, but the spirit of the laws
under which it was contracted.
4th. It is due to the labor of the nation that taxation
should be equalized and reduced as rapidly as the na
tional faith will permit.
sth. The national debt, contracted, as it has been, for
the preservation of the Union for all time to come,
should be extended ever a .fair period /or redemption,
and it is-the duty of Congress to reduce the rate of in
terest thereon, whenever it can honestly be done.
6th. That the best policy to diminish our burden of
debt is to so improve our Credit that capitalists will seek
to loan us money at lower rates of interest than we now
pay, and must continue to pay, so long as repudiation,
partial or total, open or covert, is threatened or sus
pected,
7th. The Government of the United States should be
administered with the strictest economy, and the cor
ruptions which have been so shamefully nursed and
fostered by Andrew Johnson call loudly for radioal re
form.
Bth. We profoundly deplore tbp untimely and tragic
death of Abraham Lincoln, and regret the accession of
Andrew Johnson to the Presidency, who has acted
treacherously to the people who elected him and the
cause he was pledged to support; has usurped high
legislative and judicial functions; has refused to exe
cute the laws; has used his high office to induce other
officers to ignore and violate the laws; has employed
his executive powers to render insecure the property,
peace, liberty and life -of the citizen; has abused the
pardoning power; has denounced the National Legisla
ture as unconstitutional; has persistently and corruptly
resisted, by every measure in his power, every proper
attempt at the reconstruction of the States lately in*re
bellion; has perverted the ptfblic patronage into an
engine of wholesale corruption; and has been justly
impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors, and
properly pronounced -guilty thereof by the vote of
thirty-five Senators.
9th. The doctrine of Great Britain and other European
powers, that because a man is once a subject, he is
always so, must be resisted at every hazard by the
United States, as a relic of the feudal time, not author
ised by the law of nations, and at war with our national
honor and independence. Naturalized citizens are enti
tled to be piotectedin all their rights of citizenship as
though they were natural born, and no citizen of the
United States, native or naturalized, must be liable to
arrest and imprisonment, by any foreign power, for acts
done, or words spoken, in this country, and if so arrested
and imprisoned, it is the duty of the Government to
interfere in bis behalf.
10th. Os all who \Vere faithful in the trials of the late
war, there were none entitled to more especial honor
than the brave soldiers and seamen, who endured the
hardships of the campaign and cfulsc, and imperilled
their lives in the service of the country. The bounties
and pensions provided by law for these brave defenders
of the nation are obliagtions never to be forgotten. The
widows and orphans of tbe gallant dead are the wards of
the people, a sacred legacy bequeatlmd to the nation’s
protecting care.
11th. Foreign immigration, which in the past has
added so much ts> the wealth, development of resources,
and increase of power of this nation, the asylum of the
oppressed of all nations, should be fostered and encour
aged by a liberal and just rfolicy.
12th. This Convention declares its sympathy with all
the oppressed people which are struggling for their
rights.

MEDICINAL, j
Asiatic Cholera in China.
ALMOST EVERY CASE
CURED WITH
PAIN KILLER.
Read the following letter from
Rev. R. Telford. Missionary iu China, now
visiting liihhome in Pennsylvania:
Washington, Pa., June 25,1866.
Messrs. Perry Davis de Sou. Providence, R. J..-
Dear Sirs—During a residence of some ten
years as a Missionary in Siam and China, I found
your vegetable Pain Killer a most valuable
remedy for that fearful sconrgc. the Cholera.
In administering the medicine, 1 found it most
effectual to give a teaspoonful of Pain Killer in a
gill of hot water sweetened with sugar; then,
after about fifteen minutes, begin to give a table
spoonful of the same mixture every minute until
relief was obtained. Apply hot applications to
the extremities. Bathe the stomach with Paia
Killer, clear aud rub the limbs briskly. Os those
who had the cholera, and took the medicine faith
fully in the way stated above, eight out of ten
recovered. Y’ours, trnlv.
R Telford.
If an attack with Diarrhoea, Dysentery, or
Cramp Colic, don’t delay the use of the Pain
Killer. Sold by all medicine dealers. Price, 25
cents, 50 cents, and $1 per bottle.
Manhattan, Kansas, April 17,1866.
Gentlemen— ♦ * * I want to say a Iktle
more about the Pain Killer. I consider it a eery
valuable medicine, and always keep it on band.
I have travelled a good deal since I have been in
Kansas, and never without -taking it with me,
In my practice I used it freely for the Asiatic
Cholera, in 1810, and with belter shccess than any
ether medicine; I also used it here for cholera in
1855, With the same good result.
Truly, yotirs, A. HUNTING, M. D.
Swato, China.
Cholera! * * * I regret to say that the
cholera has prevailed here of late to a fearful
extent. For the last three weeks, from ten to
fijty or sixty fatal cases each day has been re
ported. , I should add that the Pain Killer, sent,
recently from the Mission House, has been used
with considerable success during this epidemic.
If taken in season is generally effectual In check
ing the disease.
Rev. CHARLES HARDINIG,
Sliolapore, India.
[From the Portland Monthly.]
Summer Complaint and Dysentery.
Bowel complaints seem just now to be the
prevailing element, and any medicine that is
everywhere acceptable, and tfiat is reliable, is a
very desirable acquisition. From what we have
seen, heard, and experienced, we believe Davis’
Pain Killer is this desideratum. For the best
method of using it, fe quote from the directions:
“For common bowel complaints, give one tea
spoonful in agill of new milk und molasses, in
equal parts, stirred well together; lessen the dose
for children, according to the age. If the pain be
severe, bathe the bowels and back with the medi
cine. This mode of treatment is good in cases of
the cholera morbus, sudden stoppages, etc. Re
peat the dose every hour.
“The quickest way I ever saw the dysentery
cured was by taking one spoonful of the Pain
Killer in one gill of milk and molasses ctirred
well together and drank hot, at the sama time
bathiug the bowels freely with medicine. Let
the dose be repeated every hour until the patient
is relieved.”
If every person who has reason to fear this
disease would provide themselves with a bottle
of this medicine, and use as occasion required, we
believe a great amount of suffering and sickness
would be saved. je!2-—2m
