THE FAIRIES.
Up the wry mountain.
Down the rushy glen.
Wo ikucu’i go a hunting,
For fear of little men'
Wee folk, good IWk,
Trooping all together.
Gr&n picket. rod cap,
And white owl’s feather.
Down along the rocky shore,
Some make their home;
They live on crispy pancakes
Os yellow tide-foam-
Some in the reeds .
Os the black mountain lake.
With frogs for their watch dogs,
All night awake.
1 ligh on the hill-top.
Tiie old king sits:
lie is now so old and gray
He’s nigh lost his wits.
W1 til a bridge of white mist,
Colunibskill he crosses.
In his stately journeys
From Slievelcagtie to Bosses.
Or going up with music
On cold starry nights,
To sup with the Queen
Os the gay Northern Lights.
They stole little Bridget
For seven years long;
When she came down again
Her friends were all gone.
They took her lightly back
Between the night and morrow.
They thought that she was fast asleep.
But she was dead with sorrow.
They have kept her ever since,
Deep within the lakes,
On a bed of flag leaves,
Watclung till site wakes.
By the craggy hill-side,
'Through the mosses bare, #
They have planted thorn trees,
For pleasure here and there.
Is any man so daring
As dig up one in spite *
He shall find the thorniest set
In his bed at night.
• Up the airy mountain.
Down the rushy glen.

MEDICINAL.
Asiatic Cholera in China.
ALMOST EVERY CASE
CURED WITH
PAIN KILLER.
0
Read the following letter from
Rev. 11. Telford. Missionary in China, now
visiting his home in Pennsylvania:
Washington, Pa., June 25,1866.
Mer-sre. Perry Davis & Son Providence, R.
Dear Sirs -During a residence of some ten
years as a Missionary in Siam mid China, 1 found
your vegetable Pain Killer a most valuable
remedy for (liat fearful geourge, the Cholera.
In administering the medicine, I fonnd it most
effectual to give a teiwpoonfill of Pain Killer in a
gill of hot verier sweetened with sugar; then,
after about fifteen minutes, begin to give a table
spoonful of the same mixture every minute until
relief was obtained. Apply hot applications to
the extremities. Bathe the stomach with Pain
Killer, clear and rnb the limbs briskly. Ot those
who had the cholera, and took the medicine faith
fully in the way stated above, eight out of ten
recovered. Yonrs, truly,
R TELFORD.
If an attack with Diarrhoea, Dysentery, or
Cramp Colic, don't delay the use of the Pain
Killer. Bold by all medicine dealers. Price, 25
cents, 50 cents, and $1 per bottle.
Manhattan, Kansas. April 17,1866.
Gentlemen — « • • I want to say a little
more about the Pain Killer. I consider it a vefv
valuable medicine, and always keen it on hand.
I have travelled a good deal since I have been in
Kansas, and never without taking it with me,
In my practice I used it freely for the Asiatic
Cholera, in 1819, and with better success than any
other medicine ; I also used it here for cholera in
1855, with the same good result.
Truly, yours, A. HUNTING, M. D.
Swato, China.
Oholexa I * * * I regret to say that the
cholera Ims prevailed here of late to a fearful
extent. For the last three weeks, from ten to
fifty or sixty fatal cases each day has been re
|H>rted. I should add that the Pain Killer, sent
recently from the Mission House, has been used
with considerable success during this epidemic.
Iftaken in season is generally effectual in check
ing the disease.
Rev. CHARLES HARDINIG,
Sbolapore, India.
[From the Portland Monthly.]
Summer Complaint and Dysentery.
Bowel complaint* seem just now to be the
prevailing element, and any medicine that is
every where acceptable, and that is reliable, is a
very desirable acquisition. From what we have
seen, heard, and experienced, wo believe Davis'
Pain Killer is this desideratum. For the best
method of using it, we quote from the directions:
"For common bowel complaints, give one tea
spoonfulin ngill of new milk and molasses, iu
equal parts, stirred well together; lessen the dose
for children, according to the age. If the pain be
severe, bathe the bowels and back with the medi
cine. This mode of treatment is good in cases of
the cholera morbus, sudden stoppages, etc.- Re
peat the dose every hour.
“The quickest way I ever saw the dysentery
cured was by taking one spoonful of the Pain
Killer in one gill of milk and molasses stirred
well together aud drank hot, at the same time
bathing the bowels freely with medicine. Lot
the dose bo repeated every honr tutil the patient
is relieved.”
If every person who has reason to fear this
disease would provide themselves with a bottle
of this medicine, and use as occasion required, we
believe vgreat amount of suffering and sickness
would b tsaved. jell*—2m

SMOKING TOBACCO.
Competent critics pronounce it best for many
reasons:
It, is made of the best stock grown.

No drugs in it, consequently it is
Anti-nervous in its effects.
It lias an agreeable, aromatic flavor ;
Doesnot burn or sting the tongue-;

Instead of exciting the nervous forces,
It allays irritation, and calms them.
We regard it as the perfection of
