bAI’L'RDAY MORNING-
A Whittling Poe®, by a Whirling
Girl.
Whistling tlirough the corn field,
Whistling a merry air.
My feel are deep in the [w-uucs
"And tangles arc in my hair,
old folks say 'tis unlucky
For maidens to whistle, still
Life is a rugged counlry,
And whistling helps up hill.
And whenever my heart is happy.
A whistle is sure to slip
Cheery, nnd sweet and mellow,
Over my rosy lip.
Ho I maiden with stifly manners.
And lips looking prim and tart,
Fat back in the days of childhood
Your teacher was prudish Art
But I went to school to Nature.
And e’er in my class stood high;
The birds were mv merry ctassmates;
They whistle, and why not I ?
And what if I sometimes whistle ?
For that will you cry out shame ?
For that am I less pure hearted *
Less womanly? much to blame?
No! I’ll whistle when I have a mind to.
I’ll whistle out loud and clear,
I’ll whistle up hope and courage,
And whistle down grief nnd fear.
I’ll whistle when clouds are murky,
And whistle when skies are blue,
I’ll whistle when friends prove traitors,
And whistle when friends prove true.
And I’ll whistle, and whistle, and whistle,
All through the field of corn;
I’ll Whistle at noon and whistle at night,
And whistle at early morn.
And whistling, whistling, whistling,
I’ll whistle my own way through,
And whistling, whistling, whistling.
I’ll whistle this song at you.

MEDICINAL.
Asiatic Cholera in China.
ALMOST EVERY CASE
CURED WITH
PAIN KILLER.
o
Read the following letter from
Rev. R. Telford. Missionary in China, now
: visiting his home in Pennsylvaniat
Washington, Pa.. June2s, 1866.
Messrs. Perry Davisd: Son Providence, R. I.:
Dear Sirs—During a residence of some ten
years as n Missionary in Siam and China, I found
your vegetable Pain Killer a most valuable
remedy for that fen rial scourge, the Cholera.
In administering the medicine, I found it most
effectual to give a teaspoonfnl of Pain Killer in a
I gill of hot water sweetened with sugar; then,
after about fifteen minutes, begin to give a table
spoonful of the same mixture every minute until
' relief was obtained. Apply hot applications to
the extremities. Bathe the stomach with Pain
| Killer, clear and rub the limbs briskly. Os those
who had the cholera, and took the medicine faith
fully in the way stated above, eight out of ten
recovered. Yours, truly,
K TELFORD.
If an attack with Diarrhoea, Dysentery, or
Cramp Colic, don’t delay the use of the Pain
Killer Sold Hy all medicine dealers. Price, 25
cents, 50 cents, and $1 par bottle.
Manhattan, Kansas, April 17, 1866.
j Gentlemen— * • ’ I want to say a little
i more about the Pain Killer. I cousider it a very
valuable medicine, and always keep it ou band.
I have travelled a good deal since 1 have been in
Kansas, and never without taking it with me,
In my practice I used it freely for the Asiatic
Cholera, in 18J9, and with better success than any
J other medicine : I also used it here for cholera iu
! 1855, with the same good result.
Truly, yours, A. HUNTING, M. D.
Swato, China.
! Cholera ’ * * * I regret to say that tbe
cholera has prevailed here of late to a fearful
I extent. For the last three weeks, from ten to
i fifty or sixty fatal cases each day has been re
j ported. I should add that the Pain Killer, sent
recently from the Mission House, has been used
with considerable success dm ing this epidemic.
If taken in season is generally effectual iu check
ing the disease,
Rev. CHARLES HARDINIG,
Sholapore’, India.
[From the Portland Monthly.]
Summer Complaint and Dysentery.
Bowel complaints seem just now to be the
prevailing element, and any medicine that is
everywhere acceptable, and that is reliable, is a
very desirable acquisition. From what we have
seen, heard, and experienced, we believe Davis'
Pain Killer is this desideratum. For the best
method of using it, we quote from the directions:
“For common bowel complaints, give one tea
spoonful in a gill of new milk and molasses, in
equal parts, stirred well together ; lessen the dose
for children, according to the age. If the paiu be
severe, bathe the bowels aud back with the medi
cine. This mode of treatment is good in eases of
the cholera morbus, sudden stoppages, etc. Re
peat the dose every hour.
“Tbe quickest way I ever saw the dysentery
cured was by taking one spoonful of the Pain
Killer iu one gill of milk aud molasses stirred
well together and drank hot, at tbe same time
bathing the bowels freely with medicine. Lot
the dose be repeated every hour until the patient
is relieved.”
If every person who has reason to fear this
disease would provide themselves with a bottle
of tins medicine, and use as occasion required, we
believe vgreat umouut of Buttering and sickness
would I, ?saved. je!2—2m
