White Labor. —Messrs. Jacob R,
Davis A Son, have been appointed Agents
in this vicinity for the Immigration Coinpa
oy. These gentlemen have assured us that
white laborers can be engaged from them
for any length of time, and at less rates than
freedmen. aud every guarantee furnished
for the faithful performance of contracts.
This is a desideratum much needed at pres
ent. Farmers have suffered terrible loss by
the faithlessness of the freedmen, and their
interest will be protected by the employ
ment of white labor. The negroes will not
work, in a majority of eases, where contracts
hare been made, and heavy Fosses have been
entailed upon the employer. We do not
think it necessary to state tho many advan
tages that will accrue from the system of
white labor, when they are so well known.
We are in favor of a White Man’s Bureau,
geo the card of Jacob R. Davis A Son, in
another column.
A Observed Testimonial. — The
Amateur performers for the benefit of Au
gusta's Hero Dead, together with many
citizens, have tendered Mr. T. Hamilton a
Complimentary Benefit to-nigbt, as a slight
recard of the kindness showu them on Mon
day night. Mr. Hamilton is one of the best
tragedians on the Southern hoards at this
time and is every wav entitled to such a
mark of esteem. To morrow night he has
informed us, he will give the entire proceeds
to the family of the much beloved hero.
Stonewall Jackson.
Press. —The Ladies’ Committee, at
Masonic Hall, caused the press of circum
stances to he an expression of thanks yes
terday in a very expressive wav. The itn
reasion made was very agreeable to the
sorps of the I’ress employees. We are in
lebted. therefore, for the impression made,
lay they live to do the like again.
“ Everybody will let a Handsome
’rue.” —Such is the announcement of
(essrs. Porter A Putnam for Tuesday next,
then they propose to give one of the great
et drawings ever held in this city. See
heir advertisement. Their stock is new
®d perfectly handsome.
Copartnership Notice.—lt will be
een by the announcement of Mr. Jno.
ielson that he has connected his son with
dm in the general grocery business. We
rish them success. Mr. Nelson is too well
mown in this community to need auy com
