TUESDAY MORNING ..March «, 18«« SCISSORS. —A handsome youngdaily being asked , if she ever gave a kiss, replied, “No; I but I quite often have one stolen.” —lt is again reported that Alexander iDu tnas is entiling to this country ou a lecturing tour. . —A boy six years old has been ar rested in Brooklyn for an assault, and the case wns sent to the grand jury. —Some pains makes ns talkative, but n man with a tooth ache is apt to hold his jaw.' —The Constitution does not need half as many amendments as do the heads of the persons who propose them. —Senator Doolittle has caused the government advertising to lie transferred from the Milwaukee Sintinel, radical, to. the Wisconsin, conservative. —Captain Hogg, late of the Confede rate army, killed Captain Williams, of the Federal army, in a street fight in Carthage, Tennessee, on Monday. —The receipts of.the Women's Penny Society, in New Hampshire, in sixty years amounts to almost sixty four thou sand dollars. —The reported death of the Rev. Alexander Campbell, is untrue. He is now residing at Bethany, Va. —The Georgia Legislature has passed a hill making house burning and bur"- lary at night, offences punishable with death. —The receipts from internal revenue during the week before last were $3,455.-, 871.72. Total received since June 30, 1805, $210,918,190.36. —A man named Myers, of Houston, Texas, has killed in his life (he is fifty yenrs old,) 15,000 deer. His average for many years past has been 670 per year. —W, W. Seaton, ex Mayor-of Wash ington, ami well known as one of the former editors of the National Lit lli i/encer, is lying dangerously ill in that city with cancer in the face. —The leader of fashion this winter in Washington, is Mrs. Senator Sprague, the only lady who, when she gives a ball, builds a ball room expressly fur the occasion, and removes it the next day. —There is a man confined in Spring field (Mass.) jail, who has been in the House of Correction eighty differeiq limes during the last fifteen years, for intemperance. —A Connecticut Yankee is in Wash ington with a patent labor saving Con stitutional Amendment Machine, for the use of members of Congress, warranted to turn out thirteen hundred amend’ inputs per hour. He will make a for tune. —The number of widows, orphans, and disabled soldiers now drawing an nual pensions from the Government is about 97,500, without including those granted during the present month. —A cooking range exploded at the St. Louis Workhouse, recently, blowing the kitchen, which was a substantial stone building, to pieces. The head cook was fatally, and his two assistants se verely injured. —A young man at Bordeaux, France, recently stabbed his sweetheart thirteen times, until the poor girl was dead. He then washed the blood off his hands at the public fountain, and quietly surreir dered himself to the authorities. —The ladies of Winchester have raised two hundred and filly dollars to wards defraying the expenses of remov ing and suitably re-interring the noble Confederate dead that are scattered through the Valley. —ln our Loudon files we find an ac count of a firm in that city that began business three years ago on a capital of about six hundred and fifty dollars and failed about three weeks ago for more than a million. —Among the latest wonders in the animal world, is a talking dog, width has been brought out in Springfield, Mass lie can say “Good morning, ’’ “How do you do?” and many other things as a human being. —A man is now under arrest in Cin cinnati on suspicion of being one of the guerillas who robbed the bnnkol Liberty. Mo., of $72,000. He was wit h a party who came from Missouri on their way to Lexington, Ky., to which point, as is alleged by the informant who caused his arrest, they had already sent $6,000 by express in a trunk. —-A private letter from one of the Southern St ate» says the crime of in fanticide prevails to a fearful extent among the colored people, from which the inference is drawn that the blacks there must soon ruu out, unless the evil is che< ked. • „■» —New Orleans now has a population larger, hy sixty thousand, than ever be fore j Gal veSton and other Texan cities are full to overflowing; and the same is said of Memphis, Mobile, Montgomery, Atlauta, and all t e towns of the south west. —A Northern journal says that the pastor of a fashionable city church, hav ing spOken of Sqlomon’s Sqng as a pro duction of great genius and beauty, a gentleman belonging to the church called during the week at a leading music store to get a copy of it. —Jennison, th“ Kansas j lyhawker, it is reported, has become a brigadier in the Fenian service, and is going to Can ada. He is the same person of whom it has been said, that he “had lip enough to eat corn out of a jug.” —The following is a genuine tran script of an epitaph: “Here lies the remains of Thaddeus Woodheu—The most amiable of husbands, the most e;.‘ cellent of men. N. B.—The name is Woodcoc ■, but it would not come in rhyme.” —The diary of Capt. Musgrave. who was wrecked on one of the Orkney Islands, and detained there with his crew for twenty months, is about to be published in Loudon. Much of it wr , written in seal's blood.
