fcLARGEST CITY CIRCULATION^
The Bride.
BY SIR JOBS BCCKLIKG.
lier finger w»* so small, the ring
Would not stay on, whioh they did bring,
It was too wide, a peck ;
And to say truth (forout it must),
It looked like the great collar (just)
About our young colt’s neck.
Ilcr feet beneath her petticoat,
Like little mice, stole in and out,
As if they feared the light;
But oh ! she dances such a way 1
Ho sun upon an Eaater day
Is half so fine a sight.
Her checks so rare a white was on,
Ho daisy bears comparison
(Who sees them is undone),
For streaks of red were mingled there,
Buck as are on a Katherine pear,
The side that’s next the sun.
Her lips were red, and one was thin
Compared to that was next her ohin,
Some bee had stung it newly; •
But (Dick) bar eyes so guard her face,
1 durst no more upon them gaze,
Than upon tne sun in July.
Seen is Life. —Brigadier General
Edward Peterson, who has lately filled
the office of Town Marshal of Newberry,
S. C., has been superseded. The New
berry Herald thus notices his retire
ment: “The community will be grati
fied to learn that the Generals retires
gracefully, and yielding to earnest so
licitation will not suffer his talents or
abilities to rust in inactivity. The ex
ample of many illustrious Confederates,
Lee, Johtisou, Beauregard, and others
will be followed, who have each turned
their attention to useful and lucrative
pursuits. Ho would not have his friends
think that vindictiveuess or animosity
actuates him, in the choice he has made,
or that he is soured by disappuintmens,
but he is determined to shed blood, and
will henceforth butcher indiscriminately,
