Their precious blood was freely shed, our

The brave young dead of Hollywood, oould
, we but hear their voioe,
'Would cry from out their graves to us,
“Speak not the word rejoice.’’
The Conquered Banner, draped and furled,
accusingly would say:
“Rejoice not that my starry eross no more
shall see the day;
I flashed o’er many a bloody field by victory
oft was crowned,
Bnt the gallant boys that bore mo high now
sleep in hallowed ground.
“On Chicamauga’s heights I waved, on
Shiloh's bloody plain;
But never has dishonor's blight left on my
folds a stain ;
My stars are pale, my fiery cross is dim
with blood of braves,
Then then let no wassail shout be heard
thie day above their graves.”
Lot them sleep on; we mourn their loss in
sadness and in gloom,
Wo will not join the revellers that sport
above their tomb;
The orphan’s cry, the widow’s wail, still
heard on every hand,
Would drown the loudest shouts of joy in
this our sorrowing land.

CHOLEEA
A CERTAIN CURE
For this Disease may be
found in the use of
PERRY DAVIS’
VEGETABLE
Pain JKiller,
St. Louis, Mo., June 14, 1849.
Mr. A T. Woodward, Agent of Perry Davis'
Pain Killer :
Drab Sir : I feel it a duty I owe to the
public, to make known the value of Perry
Davis’ Pain Killer, and my experience in
using it for some of the complaints for
which it is highly recommended. In April
last, on your recommendation, I purchased
a one dollar bottle of you for pains with
which I have long been afflicted, and made
use of it on my trip down to Now Orleans,
with the most gratifying and beneficial
effects. On my return to this city, the
Cholera made its appearance among some
of my passengers. I made uso of the Pain
Killer, having no other remedy on board,
and, to my surprise and gratification, found
it gave immediate relief! On my arrival
in St. Louis, I called on you and got four
large bottles, and stated to you my confi
dence in it as an infallible Cholera remedy,
und remprking to you that I wanted no
othor Cholera remedy on my boat. I mado
use of the four bottles on my trip to New
Orleans and back, for Cholera and some
other complaints for which it is recom
mended, and met with the most astonishing
success ; when I ordered from you six more
one dollar bottlos. Since then I have
made two more trips to New Orleans and
back; and on my previous trip up I had
more than
SEVENTY CASES OF CHOLERA
on board, when the PAIN KILLER was
immediately used with the most astonishing
results. In all cases where it was used in
time, it gave relief in a very short timo;
and I can, with confidence, say to the pub
lic, that in all the first stages of Cholera,
when taken in time, it is, in my opinion, an
infallible remedy! and after a fair trial
with it for several weeks, and lor four
trips to New Orleans and back, and using
it for Cholera and other complaints for
which it is recommended, no consideration
whatever would induco mo to leave port
without a good supply—believing it to be a
medicine that no officer of a boat or any
family would be without a single day after
using one bottle; believing it to be the
most valuable family medicine known to
the world for all the different complaints
for which it is recommended.
P. S.—Please send me six large bottles
for this trip.
J. M. Broadwell,
Captain Steamer Adriatic.
I most cordially unite with Capt. Broad
well in recommending Perry Davis’s Pain
Killer to the public, having myself been
severely attacked with the Cholera, and
found relief in a few hours by using tho
Pain Killer, and have myself administered
it to more than fifty persons attacked with
the Cholera, and when used iu time, a cure
was effected in a few hours, and take pleas
ure in recommending it to the public as an
invaluable medicine, that no individual
should be without a single hour.
J. F. Bofringtox,
Clerk Steamer Adriatic.
Davis’ Paix Kii.i.f.r. — In to-day’s Union
will be found an advertisement of this cele
brated remedy. The certificates appended
from the captain and clerk of the steamer
Atlantic we know to be genuine, and
founded on facts, as they verbally stated in
our office the substance of what they pub
lish. —St. Louis Union.
