SONG.
Still to be neat, a till to be drest,
Aa you were going to a feast;
Still to be ponder’d, still perfumed;
l.ady, it is to be presumed,
Though * r t’s hid causes are not to found,
All sweet, all is not sound.
Give me a look, give me a face,
That makes simplioity a grace;
Kobes loosely flowing, bair as free;
Such sweet negleot more taketh me
Than all the adulteries of art;
They strike mine eyes, but not my heart.
[/fen John*un.
THE I.OVKB.
I prised every hour that went by,
Beyond all that had pleased me before;
But now they are passed, and I sigh,
And I grieve that I prised them no more.
When forced the fair nymph to forego,
Wbat auguish I felt in my heart!
Yet I thought (but it might not bo so)
’Twas with pain that she saw me depart.
She gased os I slowly withdrew,
My path I could hardly discern;
So sweetly she bade me adieu,
I thought that she bado me return. .

AX ANGEL ON EARTH.
Dio when you may, you will not woar
At Heaven’s court a form more fair
Than beauty at your birth has given ;
Keep but the lips, the eyes we see,
The voice wc hear, and you will be
An angel ready made for Heaven.
LOSS OF FRIENDS.
What is the worst of woos that wait on age ?
What stamps the wrinkles deeper on the
brow ?
To view each loved one blotted from Life’s
page,
And be alone on earth as I am now.
Before the chnstener humbly lets me bow*
O’er hearts divided, and o’er hopes de
stroyed. [Myron.
A THOUGHT.
Though tar away,
Though ruthless Time has scattered mem
ory’s dream,
Some scenes can ne’er decay,
But rest where all is change like islands on
a stream. [Drydson.

* CHOLERA.
: A CERTAIN CURE
I For this Disease may be
i found in the use of
j PERRY DAVIS’
i VEGETABLE
] Pain
St. Louis, Mo., Juno 14, 1849.
Mr. A T. Woodward, Agent of Perry Davis’
Pain Killer :
Deah Sin : I foel it a duty I owe to the
public, to make known the value of Perry
Davis’ Pain Killer, and my experience in
, using it for some of the complaints for
which it is highly recommended. In April
last, on your recommendation, I purchased
a one dollar bottle of you for pains with
which I have long been afflicted, and made
use of it on my trip down to New Orleans,
with the most gratifying and beneficial
effects. On my return to this city, the
Cholera made its appearance among some
of my passengers. I made use of the Pain
Killer, having no other remedy, on board,
and, to my surprise and gratification, found
! it gave immediate relief! On my arrival
in St. Louis, I called on you and got four
large bottles, and stated to you my confi
dence in it as an infallible Choiera remedy,
and remprking to you that I wanted no
otber Cholera remedy on my boat. I made
use of the four bottles on my trip to New
Orleans and back, for Cholera and some
other complaints for which it is recom
mended, and met with the most astonishing
success; when I ordered from you six more
one dollar bottles. Since then I have
made two more trips to New Orleans and
back; and on my previous trip up I bad
more than
SEVENTY CASES OF CHOLERA
on board, when the PAIN KILLER was
immediately used with the most astonishing
results. In all cases where it was used in
time, it gave relief in a very short time;
and I can, with confidence, say to the pub
lic, that in all the first stages of Choiera,
when taken in time, it is, in my opinion, an
infallible remedy! and after a fair trial
with it for several weeks, and tor four
trips to New Orleans and back, and using
it for Cholera and other complaints for
which it is recommended, no consideration
whatever would induce me to leave port
without a good supply—bolieving it to boa
medicine that no officer of a boat or any
family would be withont a single day after
using one bottle; believing it to be the
most valuable family medicine known to
the world for all the different complaints
for which it is recommended.
P. S.—Please send me six large bottles
for this trip.
J. M. Bhoaowell,
Captain Steamer Adriatic.
I most cordially unite with Capt. Broad
well in recommending Perry Davis’s Pain
Killer to the public, having myself been
severely attacked with the Cholera, and
found relief in a few hours by using the
l’ain Killer, and have myself administered
it to more than fifty persons attacked with
the Cholera, and when used in time, a cure
was effected in a few hours, and take pleas
{ ure in recommending it to the public as an
invaluable medicine, that no individual
should be without a single hour.
J. F. Boffington,
Clerk Steamer Adriatic.
