A BKAOttfCI. riCTCPF. of Coxtknt
mrmt.—Mr*. Eloise llnnt, Hafnar’i Hun,
Clinton county, Pa., *»yi: “My knme has
bten for six years in a little rooky basis,
ehat in oa every siju by the Allcghanies,
without a neighbor, a Clinreh, or a acbool,
ycein* no human fate fur weak*—aye, even
months aomctiiner—except those of my
husband ami ebllh. Tilting thus I have
cwtoo tn love in a strange, all absorbing
way, all that nature has thrown around me.
Earth with its varied growth of trees and
‘shrubs, plants and mosses, rucks and
water, tho clouds, blue sky and stars, every
thing is beautiful to me; even tho dead
leaves, the old decayed trees and bare rocks
are beloved. Think, then, bow inexpressi
bly dear the living trees and flowers and
moving water. I hgve tame trout, six
yards from the door, that leap above the
water to catch bits of meat from my fingers.
The pheasants make their nests in sight of
the house, and sometimes the male bird is
’ soen drumming on an old log only a few
| rods up the mountain side. I have planted
‘ wild flowers round my doors, and in Sum
mer the humming birds go through tho
l open house on their visits to the flowers.
1 Strangers from the world have said : ‘How
can yon exist in this dreary place ?’ Their
eyes cannot see as mine; nor can they bear
any of the pleasant voices I hear, and so I
simply tell them what they comprehend .
‘lt is my necessity.’ My place, which is
so lonely to others, is so pleasant to me
that I nave named it Paradise, and hero I
will teach my son a love of truth, purity,
aud beauty.”
Lectuhe of Rev. L.W. Sampson,l).l)
YTe observe, hy the Macun (Qa.) Jour
nal it- Mmtengtr, that llev. Mr. Sampson, of
the Columbia College, Washington, D. C., is
to deliver a series of lectures in Southern
cities during the months of July and
August. His subject i3 tho “Local and
Historical Tradition of the Bible Laws,’’
illustrating the Sacred Scriptures, and illus
trated hy maps, charts, topographical
plans, and altitudes of tho most important
points; and the intention is the benefit of
any needy object in the immediate neigh
borhood where the lecture is delivered. The
Doctor is a Southern sympathizer. He will
lecture iu Augusta on the 23d, 24th und

No Tbest. —Under certain conditions
the most glorious social achievements of
civilization is—tick.
Still, alas 1 tho happiness of the few who
have “a strong desire to pay” bavo tho faith
in them uprooted by the nefarious prac

and don’t.
The once confident creditor is, after all,
justified in sticking up—fearfully promi

For it is no easy job to collect a “little bill”
from every evasive debtor.
