Second Section of tbe General Ordi
nance :

tke passage of this Ordinance, the One
Hundred and Twenty Second Section of
tke General Ordinance shall be so amended
at to read aa follows :
There shall be annually elected by the
City Council, two officers, to be koown ns
the Inspector A Measurer of Wood of the
First Division, embracing the First and
Second Wards ; and Inspector A Meas
ure;* of Wood of the Second Division, em
bracing the Third and Fourth Wards ; each
of whom shall, before entering upon the
duties of their office, take and subscribe
the following o»(h“I, , do
solemnly swear (or affirnt> that I will well
sod truly serve in the office of Inspector A
Measurer of Wood, and faithfully execute
all the duties belonging to the same, with
out fear, lavor. prejudice, or partiality, to
the best of my skill, power, and ability,
•greeable to the provisions of the City Or
dinances—So help me God!” And, there
upon, he shall recoive from the Mayor the
following certificate: Ido sertify, that
* hath duly qualified before me, to
serve as Inspector A Measurer of Wood of
the First or Second Dirt-ion, ns the case
mav be, this day of , 18—.”
Eac. 11. No person shall measure any
Firewood, except tbe Inspectors A Meas
urers of Wood, or their Deputies, under a
penalty of not exceeding twenty five dol
lars for each and every offence.
Sac. 111. All Firewood brought Inti) the
City, for sale in any manner whatever,
whether sold by the car load, or disposed
of in other manner (except that brought on
WHgoDg, carts, or other vi liicles. drawn by
horse power),,shall be inspected and meas
ured by the Inspectors A Measurers of
Wood. All Firewood shall bo closely
packed and fairly corded up where it is
landed (either from railroad, river, or
canal), and before being offered for sale.
Each cord shall be eight feet in length,
four feet in breadth, and four foot in
height.
Sec. IV. It shall be the duty of the
Inspectors A Measurers of Wood, either hy
themselves, or their Deputies, to super
intoud tbe measuring of Wood, daily
(Sundays excepted), from nine o’clock
A. M. to twelve o’clock At., aud from three
o’clock P. M. to five o’clock P. M., and the
parlies selling or offering the same for sale,
shall pay the Inspectors A Measurers of
U ood twenty cents for each and every cord
of wood.) aud in proportion for each half
and quarter cord of wood; by them so
measured.
Sec- V. If the said Inspectors A Meas
urers of Wood, shall retuse or neglect to
-perform aDy ot the duties attached to their
offices, they shall, on conviotion, ho fined in
i sum not exceeding twenty dollars,fur each
and every offence.
Sec. VI. If the said Inspectors A Meas
urers of Wood, or their Deputies, shall be
found guilty of collusion or maipractice to
deceive in the quantity, they shall, upon
Conviction, forfeit their licenses for the
unexnired term thereof, and be disqualified
from receiving another, and shall also be
fined at the discretion of tbe City Council.
Sec. VII. Any person or persons who
shall refuse or neglect to have wood in
spected and measured, before offering the

To Amend and Explain An Ordinance to
Assess Taxes for the support of tbo City
of Augusta, for tho fiscal year ending 31st
March, 1867.
Sec. I. He it Ordained by the City Council
of Auyueta, and it in hereby Ordained by the
authority of the tame, That the clause in the
socond section of said Ordinance levying a
tax of one per cent, “on ihe capital stoex of
any Incorporated Bank, (Gas, Insurance
Company, or other Incorporated Company,)
located in this City,” shall be'construed to
mean, and was and is intended to mean that
there shall be a Jtke tax levied and paid, by
the owner or owners thereof, on the par
value of each share of stock in any and all
National Banks, or Banks of issue located
and doiug business in ibis City ; Provided,
that the Bank may assume and pay tho tax
if preferred.
Sec. 11. And be it further Ordained, That
the President of any and all such National
Banks, or Banks ot issue, shall, when re
quired by the Clerk of Council, furnish a
lid of the shareholders and the number,,
and par value ot shares owned by eaefi and
every shareholder in such Bank or Batiks,
under a penalty of not less than one hun
dred dollars per day for each and ovary day
of such refusal or default.
Sec 111. And be it further Ordained , That
all Ordtuances and parts of Ordinances,
militating against this Ordinance, be, and
the same are hereby repealed.
