A Novel Mode of Smuqolinq—T i * Now
York Court of Admiralty, decided on Tues
day the case of certain diamonds, claimed to
be forfeited. It appeared tlirit a short time since,
a foreign letter was put into the Post Office, the
appearance of which excited such suspicion ns
to cuuso ils being opened, when it w as found to
contain diamonds, to the value of $600, which
were attempted to he thus smuggled in order
to avoid paying the duty. The Court declared
to them to-be forfeited.
Collisions Between Natives and Americans
on Ike Isthmus. —M eetings have been held *ar
Panama by both natives nnd American citizens,
to devise menus to put a stop to the co'iidons
which are continually occurring between the
two mees on the Isthmus; and the megns re
commended by the American meeting was for
the authorities to appoint some Amerieu'i or

list, between two gentleman of color in “the
