Savannah Cotton Market, March 26.
COTTON.—Yesterday 69 bales were sold at 11 j eta.
[Correspondence of the Daily Morning News.]
Havana, 21st March 1850.
Since our Communication of 7th inst. the supplies
ol Sugar became more abundant, and Planters have
shewn more disposition to sell, although without
making any concessions of importance in prices.
Shipments have proceeded with a fair amount of ac
tivity, and more nas gone forwurd than last yea. - to
the same period. At the moment, the transactions are
restricted, owing the approach of the holidays, and
there will be very little doing until they are over.
The further course of prices will then depi nd in some
measure, on the uext intelligence from Europe, al
though as the requirements of the United States are
likely to call for well sustained shipments, and the
enquiry for Spain is increasing, we may expect to
see business resumed with considerable animation.
We place our quotations as follows :—Whites, good
to fine, 9 a 10 rials ; ordinary White, 8} a 8) rials;
Yellows, 6 r7} rs.; Browns, 5} a 5} rials, Cucu-
ruchos, 4} a 5 rials.
Muscovado Sugurs continue to go forward toFrnnce
from hence and all the outports, and prices are sup
ported, say at 5 a 5} for ordinary to middling, 5! a 6
rials for good to prime.
Molasses is at 2 rials in the harbor, and 11 rials in
the distant out-port.
Coffee is quiet and still continues very scarce. We
quote nominally $12 a 13} for middling to prime.
IMPORTS.—The market is becoming quiet on ac
count of the approaching holidays, and will continue
so until they ui'e over. A cargo of Jerked Beef from
New Barcelona sold at 6] rials, and two cargoes from
Uuenos Ayres at 7j and 8} rials. There is" one left
fur disposal. Lard has continued in small supply and
the stuck is reduced to the equivalent of 361W kegs.
We quote $11 a 12, barrels commanding a preference
in price. Scarcely any Fish has arrived and we ruis :
our quotations ; there ure 1700 quintals Cord on hand
from Norway, which are in u sweated condition. The
sales of Rice have embraced 660 casks ut 11 rials and
420 casks at 10$ rials, leaving 2 69 casks in first hands.
There were ulso 150 bags Valencia placed at 9$ rials.
The imports of W. P. Lumber only amounted to 40,-
000 feet Sacarap which were realised at $22}, leaving
50,000 feet from Portland for sale, which we named
in our last Report This article is gradually recover
ing itself from its extreme depression. A cargo ol'
Pi P. steam-sawed from Georgetown was plac
ed at $25 and 96,900 feet Timber from Suvauuah
at $22. Three cargoes came in on contract The ar
rivals of Box Shooks are again increasing, and about
60,000 were brought in since our last advices. The
inquiry is at present quite restricted, and sales to
a bmall extent were made at 6} rials on credit. Good
new Molasses Ilhd. Shooks, arc in some request, hut
few purchasers shew themselves for Muscovados.
The last sales of Empty Cusks were at 22 a 24 rials,
hut within the past few’ days a large quantity arrived.
A pout 40,(!(|0 Portland Hoops sold at $38 tf 40;
i good It. I. would command $.i0. Candles are in fair
| enquiry. Off of both sorts is scarce and higher,
i S'!! 1 6nrrels Flour changed hands at $11} per
t;nd SHJ per 200 lbs.
rllLIGH l’S.—Vessels are sufficiently abundant,
. and there is a liffr demand for them. The last char-
