NEYV YORK, April 13.
The money murket is slightly easier on call and
short loans, ' The demand continues active, however,
coneoquenlty. the rates cannot become much easier.
Tho heavy demand prevailing is owing, in great de
gree, to desire to hold cotton and other produce for
higher prices. Tho spring importations, too, have
required largo sums, for the puyment of cash du-
i Stuart Wort ley, daughter of the Duke of Xhese causes, added to tho unsatisfactory state of
tho spring trade, and the continued demand for out-
tits oud shipments to California, have acted detremen-
tully upon the supply of tho Banks, and thrown a
large amount of paper on the market for discount

Flour.—At tho elo«e of our last week's review tho
murket exhibited a disposition to rise—200 libls.
Hiidam!," who wus in New York lust year, ns
• i m o»t complex and elaborate richness,
■telling nearly to the floor, and "murmuring as
■' ntered the room, like a presence making

" worn by young wives and ladies in author-
in New York, is a smaller and more costly
! uin'li 0 f trinkets, worn with a short clasp at the
, list and with hooks for any addition* which
may suggest themselves to friends generous in
ewelry. Its cost is from five to five hundred
dollars.
••It consists of u curiously enamelled clasp,
made to slip with a hook into the girdle, and
bearing from one to twenty short chains, upon
die ends nf which »ro worn (properly) the uc-
,mitreinonts of householdry — sucli as keys
c j] s ilver knife, scissors and the seal where-,
on is graven the family crest.”
Afier this desciipt o:i, Willis gives utterance
to the following delectable piece of puppy
ism :
“To approach, lean over a lady’s girdle, beg
leave to examine her chatelaine, and be occu
pied for some time in admiring its enamelled
novelties, is the newest elegance of fashionable
manners; and, as it “fluids a tete-a-tete of ex
cusable isolation, and makes it necessary that the
cadences nf the voice should be subdued in pro
portion to the closet proximity of the inclin
ing head, the fashion, we think, is likely to be
considered a drawingroom amelioration, and
pass into perpetuity, like fans.” i
Since the recent developemerils, in the For
rest divorce case, we should not be much sur
prised if the husband of the fitst "young wife"
with whom he attempted to perform this ex
periment, would make him .the subject of n
"novelty,” in the shape of a series of involun-
tarv backward summersets out of the street
door.—Montgomery (Ala.) Atlas.

or, will fall short of an election by the people
of Connecticut 2,100 votes. Tho legislature

quite so easily obtained. There is more stringency
in the market at prt semtthau has been noticed lately,
though the supply it, ample for nil ordinary purposes.
Capitalists have shown less disposition to buy pa

The spiecie in the Assistant Treasurer’s Office, in

increase, which, from the number of foreign arrivals,
is not likely to be checked for some time.
