Bvery arrival from New Orleong brings
our streets crowds of Imply, enterprising
men bound for the land of gol’d. Four com-
nanies were ho o a few iluys since, fitting
themselves out with animals, etc., preparatory
to their overland travel to Mazailnn, on the
Pacific- There nro few slatting points so de-
ir iblu to the California emigrant as Browns
ville. Arrived here they nre enuhlcd to obtain
a complete outfit with every thing requisite for
"the journey, while thetr land travel through
Mexico is pleasant and agreeable-—being
through a settled country, where shelter and
(ood can be obtained for man and beast, and the
traveller enjoying the while Some of the most
magnificent scenery the eye ever rested upon.
A friend has computed the number of emigrants
who have made this starting point during the
nst 18 months, at 2,300 persons. The exag
gerated and prejudicial reports that obtained
•urrency in relation to other places, about a
lear since, have completely disproved them-
iclves, while this route is becoming by general
:onsent the most favorable one that points t> e
ray of the overland traveller to this wished for
■BI Dorado. The iourney has been made from
San Francis o to this place, by way of Muzmlar,
t. tliirtv tlays, and from the latter place the gen-
lemun travelled without comp&ny, alone.

and holders showed but little disposition to sell. The
following sales were made at n f cent advance on the
prices of Monday—making the advance J of n cent
since the America’s arrival: 42 bales at 111; 61 at lli

AUGUSTA, April 23.—Yesterday holders would
not offer their stocks hut sparingly, gome few snles
were made at an advance of} to fa cent. Holders
will not be tree sellers even at that advance, as they
believe the next accounts will still be better.
Heartrending Casualty.—On Saturday even-
rig last, Mias Lucinda Scott, of this pluce, in
tassing along the street on horseback, beeume
ilurmedat the speed of the horse, which was
neater than she was accustomed to, and, in an
itteinpt to junip.'off, was thrown with great
iolence to the ground, breaking and severely
nangling her ankle. The shock which this
distressing accident gave her nervous system
as so great as to prostrate it, and ull efforts
o produce a reaction proved fruitless. Alter
lingering in considerable pain until Thursday
norning at one o’clock, she expired.
Tift death of this most estimable young lady
nder any circumstances would have produced
deep sensation in this rommuniiy, among
,iiom she had lived, and by whom she was
inch beloved; hut the painful ciicumstances
tteudinglhateventrender it doubly distressing’

Electro Biology Triumphant.—On Monday
lorning lajt, whilst u g-eat many persons were
Wi lling on the Levee in Laliiyeite, to witness
is depnriureof the steamship Ohio, a man in
is crowd fell down with an epileptic fit, and
ipeared to be in the agonies of death. Sev-
ul medical gentlemen were there; hut, as they
oncluded he was a gonecuse, they did not at
mpt to render any assistance. It happened
mt a physician from the city was present, who
ud been a disciple of the renowned Theopliil-
Fiske, the Electro-Biologist. It was his
pinion, from his previous experience in such
sirs, that the man would not live a minute,
^^eing a bit of a wag, and wisely concluding
g£)at a slight experiment could do no harm,
h»re death was so near, the Doctor, determ-
led to operate on the subject electrically,
hen, to the astonishment, of the numerous
prsnns present, and, in a few seconds of time
e rose up and walked away—perfectly res-
ircd. This fact is attested by at least fifty
ergons, who where, eyr-witnesses; and we
live the testimony of many of them, to lho
T-ct that it was as perfect a case of epilepsr
i could exist The physician who performed
ircure was Dr. Frederick W. Hart, of An-
inciation street.— The Daily Delta, 18th.

Hyer, is about to embark for California.—Yan-
fee Sullivan, and other fighting men, started
