MORNING NEWS.
Another Suicide.—A moBt singular oaso
of suicide occurred In Baltimore on Monday
evening last, in William street, near Henrietta.
Mr. William Ward, who resided there, went
into his dwelling and to the bed room of his
sick wife. Here he opened a cupboard door,
and bearing a gimblet into the top of the door,
hung himself in the prcsenco of his wife
with a rope attachcp to the gimblot. His
wife was unablo to get up to do any thing,
but her' screams drew her daughter about
twelve years of age, who ran out screaming.
'1 wo ladies enmo in but could do nothing, and
before any men came life was extinct. Dr.
Baltzell was called immediately, but ho was
beyond recovery. Ho held no conversation
with his wife during his preparations for the
act, but had several days since intimated some
thing about taking his life. Ho was about fif
ty years of age, and leaves a family of several
children. Coroner Reilly held an inquest on
the body, and tho jury rendered a verdict of
suicide. This is the third or fourth suicido
which has occurred in Baltimore within the
past month.
The Ghost Story.—The New York cor
respondent of the Philadelphia Inquirer says:
The Stratford, Conn., ghost-like proceedings
havo been exploded. Tho boy in tho family is
said to be the mischievous Puck who has dis
turbed the wisdom of the people throughout
the Slate. Tho affair is said to be a ridiculous
imposition, in which grown persons have aided

The Perfection of Machinery.—A gigantic
steam hammer, the largest ever made in Eng-
and, and weighing six tons, is being manufac
tured in Liverpool for an establishment in Now
Wk. The machinery by which it will bo work
'd is brought to such perfection that a thick

Singular Occurrence.—Tho steamer Osprey,
which arrived on Tuesday last from Philadel
phia, while on her passage, struck against some
thing which gnve the vessel such a shock as to
induce Captain Dickinson to suppose that he
had touched upon a shoal nr large log. Upon
examination, nothing could bo discovered, but
the speed of tho boat was materially lessoned.
About six hours subsequently, Cnpt. Dickin
son, upon getting over the bow of tho Steam
er, for the purpose of securing a Dolphin, dis
covered an object hanging to tho cutwater.
This ho soon made out to bo a lingo Turtle,
which took all hands, including the passengers,
to haul on board. The animal, it is supposed,
must havo been sleeping on tho water, and was
nearly cut through by the shock, though it was
still alive when taken on board. The head was
cut olT as a trophy, and filled a good sized
bucket, and the carcase, which must havo weigh
ed eight or nine hundred pounds, was thrown
overboard.—Chari iston Mercury.

TEA CULTIVATION IN TIIH U. STATES.
H AVING received a small supply of TEA NUTS,
collected at great expense of money and labor,
in tlie middle districts of China, from tho most cele
brated Tea Plantations of tlie Empire, I am prepared
to fulfil my engagements by accommodating the pub
lic with a share of tho Nuts received. My main ob
ject is to plunt and cultivate; but as I am quite cer
tain that i have obtained, after the labor of three
years, the best quality of Tea Nuts, 1 am disposed to
meet tho wishes of the public, and to share them
with others.—Tea Nuts gathered in tho neighborhood
of Canton are scarcely worth cultivating, on account
of tlie inferior quidity of the Tea. It is obviously the
interest of the planter to submit to an increased ex-
penso, to secure a superior quality of Tea Nut, in es
tablishing a Tea Plantation, whether large or small.
lu prosecuting this arduous undertaking, I am in
fact acting ns an agent for the benefit of the public.
Neither the State, the public, or any individual, has
ever extended to rue the aid of a single cent.
For convenience and security, the Nuts will be
packed in tin boxes, and forwarded from Greenville,
S. C., by such conveyance and to such address ns the
purchaser may direct, to any part ol tlie U. States.
TEA PLANTS—now oil their passage from China,
selected with a single eye to quality, by a gentleman
of large experience in horticultural pursuits, and p r-
haps better acquainted with the character of the Tea
Plant, than any person in Europe or America—will
also he shared with those desirous of obtaining a
Bmall supply.
A specification of the soil best adapted to the growth
of tho plant, tlie mode of planting, cultivating, &c.
&c., will accompany each parcel.
Application should be made (post-paid) to the sub
scriber.
