MORNING NEWS.
Smiles and Tears—liv D. W Stewart.
Around her was n fairy scene,
A wilderness of flowers,
Where slowly deepened day’s solt hues,
As ccme the twilight hours.
The beech tree’s brown and gnarled stem
A rustic sent had made;
Its swuying foliage lightly cast
A soft and emerald shade.
They wove for her a dewy wreath
Of buds and blossoms, bright,
To t rown her at the festive’.
Their radiant queen that night;
The ma’drns hear their mandolin,
As lilv bells they twine;
And softly whisper. “ Isadora,
What heart so light as' thine ?”
But when they stole, with noiseless tread,
Across the shaded lawn,
The joyous melody was hushed,
The merry > miles were gone;
And tears had dimmed thostj lustrous eyes.
From which the trades had fled,
As closer to the sheltering tree
She lean? her droopingliead.
Valuable Invention*.—Mr. A. Hyer Brown, of Alba-
ny, has just invented a butt for connecting hose in
stantly, without the assistance of wrenches or any
rither instrument. The butts now in use are secured
by moans of a Screw, which takes some time to ad
just. By Mr. Brown’s method, the two extremities
ot the h* so are fitted together by a single motion, ns
a bracelet is soir. times cla-ped. or as a lamp is fixed
in nn n-tral globe, an interior arrangement of leather
and India rubber, holding it water tight under any
pressure.
Dr. Johnson. of New Orleans, has invented a “Fire
proof Hope" for steamboat till rs, marine steamers,
au i all purposes for which Manilla or hemp is used
ns rope, and is exposed to the action of fire.

TEA CULTIVATION IN THE U. STATES.
H AVING received u small supply of TEA NUTS,
collected at great expense ot money uud labor,
in the middle district" of China, from the most cele
brated Tea Plantations of the Empire, I am prepared
to fulfil my engagements by accommodating the pub
lic with a .Imre of the Nuts received. Myinuin ob
ject i-to plant and cultivate; hut ns I am quite cer
tain that 1 huve obtained, after the labor of three'
yeurs, the best quality uf Ten Nuts, I uin disposed to
meet the wishes of tlte public, uud to share them
with others.—TeaNuts gathered in the neighborhood
of Canton are scarcely worth cultivating, on account
of the inferior quality of the Tea. It is obviou-ly the
interest of the planter to submit to an increased ex
pense, to secure a superior qutdity of Tea Nut, in es
tablishing u Ti a Plantation, wht titer large or small.
Iu prosecuting this arduous undertaking, I am in
fact acting as nn agent for the bent fit of the public.
Neither the State, the public, or any individual, lias
ever exti mled to me the aid of a single cent.
For eonvsnii nqe and security, the Nuts willin'
packed iu tin boxes, and forwarded from Greenville,
S. C., hy such conveyance and to suih address as the
pureha.-er may dim t. to any part of the U. State".
TEA PLANTS—now on their passage from China,
selected with a single eye to quality, by a gehth man
ol large experience in berth ulturid pursuits, and jt r-
lmpa better acquaintsil with the character of tile Tea
Plant, than ary person in Europe or Ameri< a—will
al-o he shared with those desirous of obtaining 'll
