The sale* of cotton in the llavro murket for tho

to 2 francs, but the lower grades had experieucod
the greatest chsugo.

The splendid new steamship Keystone State
Capt. Robert Habdik, urrived at her wharf lust
eveulng at 8 o'clock, in 54 hours from Philadelphia.
She brought 141 passengers, 111 of whom were ill
the cabin, together with a full freight. The great
regularity with which this steamship performs her
trips, and the certainty of her urrival in good time,
have won for her the confidence and favor of the
traveling public, ua her largo list of paaseiigsr*
pluinly shows. Wo congratulate Capt. llurdiu and
his gentlemanly officers upon the success of their

Bailing of Emigrants for Liberia.—Tho fine
dipper ship “ Bauslieo,” chartered by tho Amerieau
Colouizntiou Society, was to sail front Baltimore on
Wednesday last She was to take on board 127
emigrants at that port, and touch at Norfolk and
take 16£ more, and uino whito missionaries. Of the
emigrants 24 ere from Maryland, DO from Kentucky
and Indiana, 0 from North Caroliua, und 172 from
Virginia. Tho Sun says thoy are well provided
with things uecetsury for settling in a new country.
The ship is entirely loaded with them end their pro
visions aud housdbold effects, and many things arc
eft behind to ho taken by the next vessel, to said

meeting on Monday night, and resolved to vole the
free soil ticket.
The Mormonites in Wales.—The ranks of
t’ic adherents to Mormouism are at present being
greatly strengthened, especially in Carmarthenshire,
Glamorganshire, and other Important district! in
Bomb Wales. Numbers of these pooplo have lately
joined the sect, iuoludieg many persons of high re
spectability and middle cluss station. A well kuown
Welsh lecturer, named Robyn Dhu, whose influ
ence with the people is vory great, has lately joined
the ranks, aid hie eloquence eeems irresistible. Im-
Meuse numbers have lately left South Wales for the
Belt Lake, and many others ere now preparing for
departure in the spring.

dated Retnedois, Cuba, October lltb, says that in

Yankee Sullivan in Jail.—A dispatch from
Boston dated the 6ih tusL, *eys that Yankee Hulls
van was safely lodged in the jail at Lennox in that
$tate, last Sunday. Morrissey has escaped. The
Massachusetts law punishes Sullivan's offence with
fire yeera imprisonment and a fine of $5000.
The authorities of Massachusetts have sent to
New York requesting tho arrest ot about fifty of the
spectators of the prize fight between Sullivan and
Morrissey. Warrants were immediately issued,
and on Monday about half a dozen were.taken into
csMady. This movement has created quite a sen
ration, in tho circle* «f Now York.

law, the compensation of members ol the Legisla

a bill to incorporate Merrshnll College iu tho city
of Griffin.
Mr. Stoval, of Columbia, a bill to impose a penal
ty of fifty dollars on Commissioner* of lloads who
do uot serve and toprevonl their appointment there
after a second term.

of the Superintendent of tho Western aud Atlantic
Railroad, was read a second time.
Au Act to abolish the right of survivorship aud

Hurricunes are expected as a mutter of course iu
our latitude in tbo full of the year, end as early as
August due preparations are made for their recep.
(ion. Houses are extra fusieued, long timbers at au
angle of 45 degrees are placed against their sidus,
and chuins of greut strength passed over tho roofs
to keep those head pieces in their proper places

Oet. 25.—The ach. Chryrolili, of Greeuport,
from New-York, called in to take a pilot out of the
N. W. passage. A norther ruging at the time, caused
a he&vy sea on the bar, aud she was obliged to make
her exit as she came iu. Sailed seme day for Mata
gorda.
Steamer Jas. L. Diy, Smith, with pesseurnrs,
mails, aud freight, from New-Orleaus, Oct, lQili,
touched in at the Florida ports. Reports the fever
_ subsided at Feusucolu and Newport, and raging
at Tampa, where Ihirtoen deaths had alroadv oc

curred. The inhabitants of thut town bad tlod, aud
were encamped ut a safe distance iu the country.
The Duy brlugs quite a number of passengers and
a large freight. Her capacity for tbe latter is in

boat this wiuter. Lt. Dickinson, U. S. A., with 17
privates, of Company D, 1st Artillery, came passen
ger in the Day from Fousecola. His command are
tn route for Fort Capou, East Florida. Lt. I),
chartered a wrecking vessel and sailed ou tbe fol
lowing duy. These 17 nteu aro the sole remain* of
thut uufortuuato company stutiouod at Fort Bar
rancas, Fuusuculu, during tho proValouco of the
fever this fall. Every man, save one, has had the

Oct. 90ih.—Arrived bark Are Sawyer of Mystic,
Gates, 10 days from New York with pussongors aud
freight for this city and St. Marks.
Oct. 20.—Arrived Pilot Boat Dart, Williams, from
Murtiu's Reef West coast of Florida. Tim Lurk
which she aud other wrecking vessels from this city
were in search of aud reported iu our lust dispatches
to your office as being ashore ou the reef, had pot off
without any assistance, and ley at auchor near by. A
pilot from the schooner Lizzy Well, of this port, was
on bourd uud brought the bark to this cily, arriving ou
the&Rh. It seems that the vessel had struck whilo go-
ing through tlio water at iherute of 4 knots, and was
uot badly aground. After the cnptatu'sdepuriurcfur
Koy West for aid, tho mate und crow went to
work und threw ovorboarri some portion of the deck
load, euougli to lighten her off the reef. They then
anchored her iu 4 fathom water. She received but
little injury, aud bes suited for London without un
dergoing any repairs.
Oct. 27—Arrived brig Florence, Gage, twelve
daye from New York, bound to Mobile. Came in
to fill water. Had experienced a heavy galo of wind
iu let. 3U° 50', Oct. 2U. Was boarded by u heavy
*ea—lost a portion of deck load—stove io water
casks—earned away after main shroud?, See. Was
obliged to boar uway for Key West nnd arr ived
us above. Bailed noxt day for Mobile. Seino day,
arrived a boat from Loggerhead Key,with news of
the wrock of the brig Naucy Plained, Ballard, from
Attakapas, a ith a cargo of sugar, Lc„ bound to
New Y’ork. Had run aground on the mud flats,
night of tho 20tb. Vessel was leaking, and being
short banded, by sickuesa and death, Cuptaiu B.
finding biutself iusidu was about to anchor, aud had
in fuel let the auchor go, when lie found the brig
hard and fait. Took aid from sloop Gazelle next
day,and sent for more wreckers—wus soon boarded
by the Champion pilot boat of Key West, aud soon
lightered of sufficient cargo to he hauled off. Wus
brought iuto port ou the 29th, end discharged iiu
mediately. Vessel has been hovo out, and i* being
caulked. Will commence to take in cargo to-mor
row. This is a salvage case, sod the brig and
cargo have beeu attached by tbe United Stale Mar
shal from Volago, aud tbe claim has been tried be

Tho Nashville (Tennessee) Whig of the 0th inst,
says t It is now quite certain that the cotton crop
has sustained serious injury from the frosts- Wo
know, from reliable information, that such ia the
tbe case In this State. Our accounts from Middle
end West Tennessee all agree that in Ihe fresh end
iu the rich bottom lends the top crop of bolls have
been so bitten as effectually to prevent’their matur
ing. They have in fact, to a very great extent,
become sodden, end ere rotting nn the stalk. The
same is true in regard to the plant in Georgia and
South Carolina, end we may add, In Mississippi, ns
far as we hevehntrd. Iu tho Memphis Appeal we
find e letter from Ysnoo City, which states that tbe
frost of the 24lh ult., was followed by cold, heavy
rain*, and that the destruction of tbs top crop of
bells, tbe main reliance of the planters in that sec

wills the Appeal, that there can be no doubt of the
present crop's failing, el the least calculation,*

The probability, we thiuk, is, that the difference
will be even greater then that.

about one million aud a half of dollars are said to

Dreadful Accident.—A dreadful accident oc
curred e few miles below Easton, Pa., about ten
o'cl'sck on the morning of the 6th inst. A number
of men worn engaged in Idastiug rocks; the powder
bring damp did not go off as soon as was axpocted.
The men thinking the match had been extinguished,
retuined to their posts, when the explosiou took
place. Ouc man was instantly killed, his head
being blown entirely ofl'. Three others were se
riously, end it is feared fatally, injured.

New York, Nov. 8, P. M.—New York Election.—
The election is progrossing to-day under much ex
citement. A terrible riot occurred at the Sixth
Ward iu tho cily. The rioters took full possession
of the pulls, broke open tlio ballot-box iu the most
high-handed manner, und scattered tho tickets to
the wind*, thus rendering null and void the voto of
this ward. A good deal of fighting aud iotouso ex
citement. it is now reining.

A Washington letter of the 8lb inst., says
learn that tho work of decapitating the free-soil
office-holders in Massachusetts has alreudy begun,
in pursuance of the general order, lutely issued,
through Geu. Cushing. Two or three abolition
postmasters, who were appointed by Gen. Piorce's
special favor, and tlion joined tho coalition, huvo
been removed. 'Tlio orders for this good work worn
not sent till yesterday.
