Florida, OapL Woodhull, arrived at her
wharf early on Saturday morning, in sixty
hours from New York. We are indebted to
her purser for files of papers in advance of the
mail.
The Atlantic's Naws Ft 8t. Louis.—A
dispatch from Bt, Louis, dated Wednesday,
June IB, and published in the New York
Commercial Advertiser, states that the Eu
ropean advicee by the steamer Atlantic, were
received there, via the House Line to Chicago,
at eight o'etook on Wednesday morning.
The Bteamer’s news transpired in Wall
street about a quarter before nine o’clook on
Wednesday morning.

arrival in England, to donounoe him because
he signed tho Fugitive Slave bill, and other,
wise manifested his determination to enforce
the provisions of tho Constitution, while he
was President of tho United States. Their
strong anti-slavery feeling bliuds them to tho
courtesy due to a stranger.

The steamship Orizaba, arrived at New
Orleans, on Monday. By this arrival we
have news to tlit 2d irstant from the [City of
Mexico, and to the 8tb of Vera Cruz.
The state of Michoacnn ,has beoomo the
grand centre of the rebellion. The latest
news from the seat af war is published in the
J/eraldo, dated May 26th and 27 th, and con
tained in letters from Patxocuaro, a place of
considerable importance, a short distance
from Morelia, ana near the centre of Mlchoa-
can, and is to the effect that President Santa
Anna arrived in that city on the 24th, and on
tho 26th resumed his march towards Ario,
ubuut ten leagues distunt,which is garrisoned
by 2000 of tbe insurgonts, under tho com
mand of General Comonfort. Tho President
says the letter of tho 27th, must be near
them, and news of a decisive battle was hour
ly expected. Tho President seeinB to retain
all the vigor of his youth; age doeB not tell
upon him, and, notwithstanding the Iobs of
his leg, - still continues to travel on horse
back. “His soul’s in arms and eager for the
fray.” The piaina of Ario, have perhaps, by
this time, become a second Bosworth Fein-
That distinguished rebel chieftain, Degol-
lado, ia reported by official dispatches from
General Tavera, to have been totally routed
and dispersed by his brigade at the town of
Tixuyutla, which was occupied by them.—
General Tavera Bays their cavalry only suc
ceeded in escaping from tho fleelhess of their
horses—the infantry and artillery being al
most entirely destroyed or taken prisoners.—
He doses this dispatch by stating that be
shall shoot the prisoners. The remnant of
Degollado'a force, amouriting to about ono

zales, was defeated by General Gavosso at
Zumpango, with great loss.
These two brilliant viotorieB, it was pre
sumed, would terminate the war in Mionoa-
can.
The two war steamers recently purchased
by Santa Anna in England and St. Thomas,
Were hourly expected at Acapulco, and on
their arrival the port would bo shortly block
aded.
Tho roport of tho rebellion, near Moutaroy,
is confirmed by official despatches to.,tne
Minister of War from the Governor of Neiivo
Leon, but there ia nothing further in regard
to it thau we havo reoivea by way of the Bio

Tho rebellion is flourishing in Guanajuato,
An official dispatch from General J. M Jovego
dated Guanajuato, May 9tb, states that the
insurgents, to the number 900, bad appeared
before the city and demanded 'its uncondi
tional surrender. The earno dispatch la
ments tho fate of General Pacheco, who s
supposed to have boon defeated by Cocsto s
army, user Guanajuato, aud it is feared that
he is either deed or hu been taken prisoner.
In Totauntepec the rebels are reported to
bare been defeated, or rtther aiinihu ated.

Important Successes of .th* Alllaa-

The neweis the most important yet re
ceived froth the seat of war since the battlt'of
Alms. The intelligence comprises three dis
tinct Successes of tho Allies. First, the suc-
oeseesof tho French in sanguinary conflicts
lasting the whale of the nights of tho 22d
and 28d of May, in whioh they took and still
retain an important position of defence in the
place d'urime boforo Sebastopol—not loss
ihan 8000 men were kilted or wounded, most
ly by the bayonet.
Secondly—The Allies made a rapid advance
aud seized aud retain the Russianlines on the
Tchemayn, without inourring much loss—
44 - Russians retreating to the Hills.
lirdly—Tho Allies' secret expedition has
obtained easy poasosion of Kertseli, and now
command the sea of Azofij in which are now
fourteen allied steamers. The Russians, on
the approach of tho Allies, blew lip tho forts
and burned four steamers and thirty trans
ports, with halts million sacks of bread-
stuffs.
France and England have declined further
conference at Vienna, as proposed by Aus
tria.
The French before Sebastopol.
By tbe last advices wc hod a brief aunounoe-
meut that the French had driven tho Rus
sians from their strong position of defence,
ot place d’armie before Sebastopol. The af
fair oocurred on the nights of the 22d and
28d, and was the moat sanguinary engage
ment since tho battle of the Alma. The
place was defcuded by nearly tho wholo gar
rison. The total losses on both sides, in
killed and Wounded, ia eet down et 8000
men.
General l’elisBier save the Russian loss was
enormous, and that of the French troops con
siderable, though mnch less than that of the
enemy. The French at the latest uceounts,
retained the position thus won.
Prinoe Gonehakoff’s account of the affair
is this:—Yesterday evening seventeen ba-
talliona fifths enemy, with reserves, attacked
the trench af the counter approach common,
oed tho day before, in front of bastions five
and gix. The combat was sanguinary and
lasted during tbe whole night. Oar twelve
batallions lost nearly 2,500 men In driving
back the cnerly.
General Pelissier telegraphs os follows:—
May 25th, 10 o’clock P. M,—To-day wo have
occupied tho line of the Tchornaya. Tho en
emy were not in force, and offered little
resistance, retreating rapidly into the hills.
We have definitely established ourselves, and
in the workB earned on the 22d and 28d.
An armistice was agreed upon for burying
tho dead, and this enabled us to estimate the
loss of tho euemy. U must be from five to
six thousund men In killed aud woundod.
Lord Raglan telegraphs as follows: May
27 th.—We are masters of tho sea of Azolf
without loss. Tho troops landed at Kertscb,
on her majesty’s birth-day, the 24tli. The
enemy fled aftor blowing up the fortifications
on the sides of the straits and destroying their
steamers. Some vessels and fifty guns had
fallen into the hands of tho allies.
Another despatch from Lord Raglap datod
May 80 says: Letters from Sir George Brown
ana Admiral Lyons on the 29th, announce
the destruction by the enemy of four Russian
war steamers, and large depots of coin. The
allied troops succeeded in blowing up a
zine at Arabal, and in destroying abo
hundred merchant vessels. Only one Rus
sian steamship remained in tbe sea of
Azoff.
Advicoa from Gen. Briwn, dated May
09th, state that the troop,. Mint' sued healthy.
Five vessels, ladoned with jorn, run into
Kertaoh, not knnv-lug that tb, place had been
taken, and were captured by tbe allies. Tho
numoer of guns found by tho allies exceeds

The French accounts say that tbe Russians
burned 80 transports, as well as their four

Memel, May 29.—When the steamer Dri
ver wo* sent into the Baltio porta, to serve
the vessels lying there with official notice of
the blockade she fount among other American
ships, the Samuel Aplcton, of Boston, which
was also served with a warning to clear out
within six days. A day or two afterwards,
whan out cruizing, the steamer fell in with
the Appleton, and an officer was sent on
board; who examined her papers and found
them perfectly in order. Whereupon the

When Ilia war steamer Driver waa sent into
tho Baltio ports to servo tbo vessels lying
there with tho official notice of the blockade,
oho found uwongst others tho American ship
Samuel Appleton, uf Boston, which she also
served with a warning to clour out within six
days.
A day or two aftorwards, being ont cruis
ing, foil ill with the Appleton, and an officer
was sent on board to examine her papers..
They were found perfectly in order, whore-
upon tho officer demanded to see the bills of
lading.
The American captain objected to this, and
begun to make difficulties, whioh excited tho
suspicion of the British officer, so ho Insisted
on their production, which was at length
complied with, when it turned out that the
Appleton had just landed at Baltish port fifty
thuusund rifles and tan thousand revolvers,
beside about eight hundred bales of cotton,
as the ostensible part of her cargo.
Tho ship was oarofulty overhauled, but
nothing contraband of war was found on
board. The Appleton entered tbe Sound on
tbe 15th of March, und arrived at Baltish port
on the 12th uf April.
