lot, enclosure end yard tn bla District once a week
from first dey of March to the flrvt day of Novem
ber, end monthly thereafter, end meke report at
.the meeting Immediately subsequeut of the con

same, and it ahali be the duty of the Chairman or
acting Ohalrmin of such Health Commissioners to
reoelve from every sexton and beeper < f a cemetery
a report of Interments aa now provided by law,
which report shell be eubmltted to the Inspection
of the Mayor or acting Mayor.
Bee. 8. That the said Health Commissioners shell
be and they are hereby Invested with all the pow
ers uow by law entrusted to the Board of Health,
and that all the Ordinances of the city applicable to
the Board of Healtu, as now ooustltuted, shall be
and are hereby applied to the Health Commissioners
created by thle Ordinance, except so far as tinId
Ordinances may be hereby changed or modified;
and It ehall be the duty of said Commissioners and
of each of them to place the Superintendent of
Streets and Lanes upon the information docket
whenever they or either of them see that the
Streets, or Lanes, or Squares are not kept in order,
in compUnnee with his contract and the City Or
dinances regulating the Scavenger's Departi
Ordinance 20th April, 1827—
Bee. 0. That If auy person or persons shall refuse
admittance to, or ehall oppose or reeist the com
mittees of the Board of Health when making in
spection, or shall refuse admittance to, or shall op
pose or resist the Marshal or Constable in the ex
ecution of his duties under this Ordinance, such
person or parsons shall on oonvlctlon before Coun
cil, be fined in a sum not exceeding thirty dollars,
one half to be paid to the Informer, the other half
to the Treasury of the eity.

See. 17. That It shall not be lawfal for any peri
to retain or keep hogs within tba limits or the city
—and each and every person so offending, If a
white person, be fined In a sum not exceeding
thirty dollars, for eaeh and every such offence; and
if a stare or a free porson of color, shall be fined in
a sum not exoeediug thirty dollars, or be whipped
at the discretion of the Mayor, Chairman, or any
two Aldermen.

Ordinance 13ih August, 1839-
Bee 3. That all occupants of houses, Merchants,
Shopkeepers, Grocers and Tradesmen carrying on
trades under roof, residing above the Bluff, shall
be compelled every day In the week before seven
o’clock, A.M., to sweep the fbot-waik before their
respective houses or lota, or so much of tho lot as
is occupied by eaoh, for the space of six feet from
the foundation of the house, plans, railing or fence,
(as the case may bo,) and collect the rubbish there
on and therefriiu, and deposit the urns ready for
the scavenger’s carts.
Bee. 0. That the owners, tenants or occupiers of
howtos shall keep within their yards or enclosures
respectively, a box or barrel or sufficient slse, in
which shall be deposited all the offal, filth, rubbiib,
dirt, and other matter generated in said building
and enclosure, and the said filth of every descrip
tion os aforesaid shall be pieced In said box or bar
rel from the first day of April to the first day of
Novsmber, before the hour of seven o’olock, A. M.,
and from the first day of November, Inclusive, to
the last day of March, Inclusive, before the hour of
eight o’clock, A. M., and sueh matter so placed shall
be daily removed, (.Sunday excepted,) by the said
Superintendent to sueh placed without the city as
shall be designated by the Mayor or a majority of
the Street aud Lane Committee.
Ac. 9. That every house-holder, and occupant of
a house, shall keep the yard, cellar, enclosure, or
premises so occupied, clean and clear of and free
from all putrid and stinking watar, or other putrid
or offensive matter or thing whatsoever: and It
•ball be the duty of every hotueholder or occupant
of a house, to throw into tbs privies attached to
their yards or enclosure, a peck or a sufficient quan
tity of Lime, once a month during tbe months ol
May, June, July, August, September. October aud
Novembor. Penalty not exeeedlng $100;

put up any gutter or spout to convey filth from
kitchens within any street or laue of the city; and
auy person so offending, shall forfeit and pay a sum
out exceeding $60, for each and every offence, aad
the sold gutter or spouC shall forthwith be re
moved.
