Iu the House on T hursday afternoon, th dis
cussion was conliuued upon ibe lull to restrict
further the planting ol cotton. The bill pro
vides lor the pluming ol only one. acre to Dm
hand. The act ot Die last Legislature restricted
the planting to three'acres to tM) hand, and
tills measure seeks a further rcdnciiou. The
discussion took a wide rungc, uud gave ample
suupe to many hew members, who had prepared
theini-elvc.n lor the occasion. The modAly and
dillidtuce of others wbo desired to make Dual -

deterred them irom entering upon a field which
had been so extensively and thoroughly ex

the bill, while many from Middle Georgia, aud
all from the South-wosiern section, opposed the

of the recent fright about the safely ol John
son’s Ipliind, on Lake Erie, it is reported that
Crauey Island, near Norfolk, is lo be filled up
us a prison depot, aud the Johnson Island pris
oners transferred lo that point.

Butler’s First Act.—General Butler, la at*

at meeting a rebel officer looking at a parade ol
our troobs. It was Gmieral Fitzhugh Lee. On
belug told that, he wojoyed the liberty of Old
Boiul, General Butler sharply expressed his
disapproval of suchreprehensible courtesy.
T he next day Lee made a voyage to Fort LaFa-
yelte. _
