Dalton, Dee. J —The following order has

GENERAL ORDER, f
No. 214. i
Upon renewed application to the President
his consent has been obtained for the relin
quishment of the command of this army. It
is accordingly transferred to Lieuteuant General
Hardee. ^
The announcement of this separation is made
with unfeigned regret. Au association nl moio
than two years which iiiud together a comman
der and his trusted troops, cannot he severed
without deep emotion. For a common cause,
dangers shared on many hurd fought fields have
cemented bonds which llmc*cuu uever impair.
The circumstances which render this step pro
per will be appreciated by every good soldier
and true patriot. The last appeal the GeueraI
has to make to iho gallant at my which has so
nofily sustained him, is to give his successor
thal cordial jyyl generous Support so essential
to '.he success of your arms, iti that successor,
you have u vetoran, whoso brilliant reputation
you have aided to achieve. To the oUlcers ol

support the army utid myself is due, in u great
degree, what little success and fame we have
achieved. Bidding them and the army un al~

prayers ol u grut'elul friend.
Braxton Uiiauu.
Oo assuming command Lieutenant General
Ilardoe Issued the following General Order to
the soldiers of the army of Tennessee :
“General Bragg haviug beeu relieved from

upon me. The steady purpose—the uufiiucb

served no woll.

there is no cause for diicouragement. The
overwhelming numbers of the enemy forced us

l'he Yankee loss iu killed and wounded was
very groat, including a large proportion of regi

list of casualties. But our iuforiuuui says they
do uot mind this, us, according to tbeir accouut,
“they have plenty of tueu.”
The spirit of our people iu Middle Tennes
see is represented to be eulleti; although
buoyed In’ » very feeble hope, it is not nuhju-
gated. The late light bad a most disheartening
effect. Steps are being lakcu by Andrew
Johnson to organize a civil government, of
which F.x-Gov. Win. B. Campbell is to be tbe
head. Jobuson himself proposes to go to the
United States Seuale. Few of the people will
give couutcuuucc to the arrangement. The
citizeus of Nashville are more rebellious thuu
ever, particularly the ladies.

Tiik Yankee Makinh.—According to the
coufesHons of toe New Yoik Herald, the Yan
kee commercial tlug has almost disappeared
irom the waters. It declares that tour or live
Confederates have completely bullied four or
live hundred U. S. ships of war, and thrown the
great bulk of Northern commerce into foreign
ve*aels. It blames the Secretary ot the U. fl.
Navy for this; but he says he has tried iu vaiu
to prevent the ravages of the Confederates.
What a tribute to the lour or tlve Confederate
ships of war! .
On to Atlanta.—A train ot cars, loaded lu-
side and on top, with Yankee prisoners, passed
down to Atlanta yesterday. The number was
variously estimated at 500 to 800. They were
very boisterous, volunteering many impudent
speeches to people as they passed Marietta,
shouting uud askrag: 4*Where are.the rebels ?”
“Onrarmy will be down upon you before long,”
<Ve. We do not npprove of gratuitous insults to
Yaukue prisoners, devils though they be; but, ou
the other hand, we think the guards ought to
lie instructed to place a curb upon their iuho-
louce, and net to p.rtnit them to indulge lu
shouting aud contemptuous jeering of our peo
