AFFAIRS IN N|^UltLBANS.
We have had the pleusure ol uu interview with
Col. T. J. r Reld, ol the 13th Arkansas regimeui,
whose escape limn New Orleans on the 14th
instant, has already beeu reported by telegraph.
Col. U. corrects some repor# respecting the Fort
Jackson allair. 11c places uo credit in ibe
ntatemi ut that the gurusou ol Fort St. Khilip
has joined in the outbreak. Tho tmrlsou ol
Fori Jackson was probably Iroin one to two
colored regiments, with 30 white officers, 27 ol
whom were put to death—the others escaped.
He bad heard uo account of the libeiultou ol
the ConMtorale prisoners In the Fort, ull 01
whom he believes to be civilians, though there
may be a few officers arnoug them. Neither had
ho beurd ol an extra being issued by the True
Delta and suppressed; indeed, they would um
have dared to publish 11.
Banks sent uu ordci to the papers to slate
that there hud been a slight disturbance ul Fort
Jackbou, but uo blqodsbud us was rumored in
ily. A cuulion wus appended, uot to com
iucut upon it, or upon the news irum Fort
Jacksou.
Tho rebellion was uot tbu result of a collision
betweeu the men uud Ihtir oilicers^bui hud
evidently been previously planned, and grew
out Oi ibogeuural disaulistacllon of the negroes
with their new masters. The garrison ol the
fort cousists ol regiments ol free negroes that
were organized by Butler, aud who elected of-
:ers Irum their Own body.
These officers were reduced to the runks by
Gen. Banks. Some ot the privates have beeu
sentenced by couria maitlal to several years
service without pay—have beeu, in fact, sen
tenced to slavery. Thu Yankees send oil all
“eoutr tbands” immediately ou their arrival, to
the. government plantations; where the discip
line oi Ihe lash is administered with unheard of
severity. These, uud such us Ibe-e, are the
causes which iiuvo exasperated Ihe minds ol the
negroes, aud led to the revolt. The excitement
and apprehension which it bus produced may be
judged Iroin the fact that ou the morning ol the
14 b a salute wus Itrcd ou the arrival ol two
brigades ol while trroops, who are supposed to
have tAeD collected from points between New
Orleans and Hrasheur City.
Among other items of New Orleans news, wo
learn Iroin Col. Reid tbn 19 Couledurate offi
cers, and something like SOU privates were to
have tell 011 or about the 13th, tor Frunkliu's
command, to be exchanged for Federal prison
ers in Gen. Taylor's hands. Among these are
Lieut. Col. Guess, oi the 31st, and Adjutant
Howard, ol the 7th Texas. The supposed rua-
tor Ibis exchange is, that Gen. Taylor has
captured some of the Yankee peta, whom they
wish # lo recover—Col. Knott 101 oue, sou ol
Captain Kuott, of Banks' slut). All these ex
changed prisoners belong to the Traus-Missis-
bippi Department. Coi. Guens was captured al
Morgan?. 1, alter the tight, by some Yankee
stragglers, he buviuggoue upon the Held to seek
lor the body ot a irtcud whom he supposed to
be killed.
The pre-oeeupatlou of our space obliges us
to omit, for the pruoeul, Ul least, many Interest
trig mailers gathered m our conversation with
Col. Reid, but he would uot excuse us if we tail
ed to uouce the unUtnchiug patriotism and uu
tiring devollou to the want* of the sutleriug
prisoners of the New Orleans luuios. Their
spirit is yet unsubdued, aud it is.their glory
that they—tho only Iowa Butler ever uarud en
counter—defeated the Beast, and that he aud
his minions have never recovered trom the
wounds of allugiug eouiompl which the women
ol Now OrluttOH indicted on them, aud uuder
which they still wiilbo. The Yankees uud their
adherents are exiles iroin gooil society; uo oue
of them has ever gaiucil entrance lulu a decent
lunnly; except when he went otflcially to insult
a lady or to steal someihiug.
