AN ADDRESS,
troRTHE orr.siNQ or rnr. .nkw-iorr theatre,
To tic spoken by Mr. Ol’ff.*
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN,
Enlmhtened as yon are, you nil must know,
Our play-hoi^ew'aiburnt down,some time ago
Without insurance ; '(w as a famous blase,
Fine fun for firemen, but dull spoi l for plays:
The proudest of our whole dramatic corps,
Such warm reception never met before.
It was n woeful n In lit for us and ours,
Worse than dry wcathertto the fields and
flowers.
The evening found us gay as summer’s lark,
Happy ns sturgeons in (hoTappan sea ;
The mourning, like the dove from Noah's Ark
As homeless, hotisi less, innocent ns she ;
But, thank* to those whoever have been known
To love the public interest—when tbeirown ;
Thanks to the mep of talent and of trade,
Who joy in doing well—when they're well paid
— Again our fire worn mansion is rebuilt ;
Inside and outside, neatly carv’d and gilt,
W : ilh best of paint noil canvass, lalli nnd plaster:
The Lord bless Beckman and John Jacob Astor .'t
A< an offl coalfrom Jenuing’spatent screw,
Comes out clean scowr’d brighter than the new;
As on old head on Saunders'patent wig,
Lochs wiser Ilian when young, and twice as
big ;
As Mat Van Bnren, in the Senate hall,
Repairs the loss he met in Sanf ird's fall;
As the new Constitution will (We're told)
Be. worth at least a dozen of the old ;
Bo is our new house belter than her brother ;
Its roof i« pointed yellower than the otiier;
It is insured at three per rent 'gnin-t fire,
^ud cost three times as much and is six inches
higher!
*Tis not the house.olpijteL the prompter's

Arc all tpiilc new ; Urtflifitter fiddler's hows;/
The Supcroutn'rarie* nee newly shar'd w
New drill'd nod all extremely well behav'd.
They'll each one be allowed (I stop to mention)
The right of suffrage by the new convention.)
We’ve some new thunder, several new plays,
And a new splendid carpet of green baize :
So that there’s nought remain to bid 11s reach
The topmast bough of favor, but a speech ;
A speech, the prelude of each public meeting,
Wlietlierfor morals, charity, or anting ;
A speech the modern mode of winning hearts,
And powerand fame in politics and arts.
What made the good our President ?
’Twas that thro’ all this blessed land w e Went,
With his immortal cock'd lint bi short breeches
Dining wherever nsked, ami making speeche*.
What, when Missouri stood onlierTast legs,
Reviv’d her bones? The speech of :
What proves our country learned' wise u happy?

W at has convinced the world that we have
