TOT UK MARQUIS LA FAYETTE,
The only surviving General of the Revolution_
We'll search I he earth, uiul search the sea,
To coll a gallant wreath lor thee ;
And every field for freedom fought,
And every mountain height, where aught
©I lilirrly can yet be found,
Shull be our blooming harvest ground,
I.iuiir.1* in garlands Imng upon
Thermopyla; and Marathon :
On Hunnockburn the thistle grows—
On Runnymeud the wild rose blows—
Ami on the banks of lloynn Its leaves
O ten Erin’s shamrock wildly weaves—
In France, in sunny Fmue.e, we II get
The flour de lys, and mignonette
Fiom every eonseeialed spot
Where lies a murter'd llugonot,
An call, e'en here, from many a field,
And many a rocky height,
Buys thnt our vales nnd mountains yield,
Where men have met to light
For law, and liberty and life,
And died in Freedom s holy strife.
Below Atlantic seas—below
The waves of Erie and Champlain,
The sea-grass and the corals grow,
In rostral trophies round the slain ;
And we can add, to form thy crown,
Somebrauches worthy thy renown
Long limy the chaplet flourish bright,
And borrow from the heavens its light!
As with a "loud that circles round
A star, when other stars had set—
With glory shall thy b ow be bound,
With glory shall thy head be crown'd,
tVitii glory, star-like, cinctur'd yet !
For earth, and air, and sky, and sea,
Shull yield a glorious wreath to thee.

By the report read on Wednt sdny nt the
Annual Meeting of the Sunday School, Uni

scholars chiefly' among the slaves. In the
Wed Africa large schools were established
among the liberated negr-es. io South Sea
Islands, a school had been formed contain
ing 240 boys and 20 girls—and in India it
Was calculated that 20,000 children of na
tives wero receiving education in similar es
tablishments.—London paper.
It is remarkable, in ttie progress of human
opinions, that at the very moment that a
British House of Commons was rewarding
Dr. Smith with £0000 for the vapour of ni
trous acid hs a destroyer of contagion, an
American legislator, Dr. Mitchell of New-
York, was exhibiting to his fellow-citizens,
liiis individurl substance as being the very
matter of contagion itself. — Lon, Magazine.
