(Provision will also be made for instruction ia Modern Lan

Tne Academic Department will consist of those who are
preparing for admission into this or any other College.
The Primary Department will be composed of those pur
suing tlie ordinary branches of an English education,
The students in these two departments, ns well as the Col
legiate, will be instructed by the Faculty of the-College.
In consequence of this arrangement, boys, in tlie early stage
of their literary course, will enjoy advantages perhaps unsur
passed in this country, as they will be taught by a regular
Faculty; while the students of the College will receive the
full amount of instruction ordinarily given them, as will he
seen by a reference to their course of study. This system
will vastly increase the labor of the Facullv; this labor tliey
liave however consented to undergo.
The adoption of this new plan has been caused by tlie pecu
liar state of tlie times. Though the amount on our subscrip
tion list is sufficient to warrant the commencement of the
work in its origin d form, yet from the present state of affairs,
it, would have been mure than indelicate to call upon many in
dividuals for their subscriptions. On the other hand, many pa
rents have been making their arrangements to send their sons
to Midway during the next year. Buch persons it would be
painful to disappoint, yet it would be impossible to proceed
for want of funds in hand. The course now announced as be
ing adopted, was then proposed—that is, to bring the Aeauc-
my and College under the government and instruction ot the
same President and Professors. l>y this arrangement the ex
penses of the Institution will be sustained, and all difficulties
iu its way removed.
The Boar J of Trustees take this occasion to say, that afer
this year the Steward's Hall will be discontinued. This is
done, that there may be no hindrance in the way of such per
sons as may wish to"move to Midway for the purpose of taking
boarders.
The Trustees close this communication by suggesting to pa
rents. (who desire their children to be educated, an l who
cannot afford to send them abroad for this purpose) the pro
priety of settling themselves at Midway. By taking board
ers, the expenses of their family could be snore than sustain
ed, and their children of all ages receive a thorough and fi
nished education. To others disposed to turn tlieir attention

To reflect on my soul a ray,
Of beauty surpassingly bright;
And then—ye vanished away,—
Like the fire of the sunbeam that kisses the wave.
Ere it dips 'neath the blue sea to its wat'ry grave.
Like Poesy when first his art,

And call’d deep passion from the heart,

devil in the works to ivony and destroy him ? But there
was a lettei! With desperate hand he broke the seal, and,
as if staling at a sheeted ghost, he looked at the contents ;
they were as follows—
“Mr dear Sir,—I know yon-will, pardon tlie step I
have taken. Yes. that considerate delicacy you possess for
the wants and wishes of yonr fellow-creatures will,-1 am
sure, forgive this seeming liberty. I can never forget, I
can never repav, vour kind attentions. Deprived of .the
benefit of communion with yon, my watch has been three
times down. I cannot tell the hour; I wake and think it
nnfst be broad daylight, and I hear the watchman cry

William!” shrieked Patty Larkspur, nnri fell upon her
knees, when the closet-button being turned by the indignant
thumb, and finger of the young gentleman, Hcury Snow-
stood in all-his dark iniquity revealed.
Cousin William, after a great effort, said, with apparent
composure,. “ Very well; Sir, follow- me,” and quilted tlie
house, Pally Larkspur, however, preventing Snow from
obeying the orders of her murderous cousin.
Snow was much affected by the devotion shown to
him bv Patty Larkspur; like Benedict, ho had “never
thought to marry;” but we will not hold the reader by a
long narration of the causes which prevailed upon our old
bachelor: ere two hours had elasned from the exit b: the
fiery William, H'enry Snow had made a formal efier of
his hand to Patty Larkspur, who consented to accept it
with this condition, if her life were spared.
About a twelve month after their marriage—the life of
Patty was spared—Mr3. Snow fell into a serious fit of illness.
We know little of the domestic felicity of the pair up to
that period: we only know that the husband would look at
