[Provision will also be made for instruction in Modern Lnn-
guages.j
The Academic Department will consist of those who are
preparing for admission into this or any oilier College.
The Primary Department will be composed of those pur-
; suing the ordinary branches of an English education,
The students in these two departments, as well as the Col-
1 legiate, will be instructed by the Faculty of tlie College,
j In consequence of this arrangement, boys, in the early stage
| of their literary course, will eiyny advantages perhaps unsur
! passed in this country, as they will be taught by a regular
] Faculty; while the students of the College will ieceive the
1 full amount of instruction ordinarily given them, as will be
j seen bv a reference to their course of study. This system
j will vastly increase the labor of the Faculty; this labor they
| have however consented to undergo.
The adoption of this new plan has been caused by the pecu-
! liar state of the times. Though the amount on our subscrip
tion list is sufficient tn warrant the commencement of the
j work iriits original form, yet from the present state of affairs,
| it would have been more than indelicate to call upon many in
dividuals for their subscriptions. On the other hand, many pa-
i rents have been making their arrangements to send their sons
■ to Midway during the next year. Such persons it would be
| painful to disappoint, yet it would be impossible to proceed
! for want of funds in hand. The course now announced as be
ing adopted, was then proposed—that is, to bring the Aeade-
S nay and College un ler the government and instruction of the
I same President and Professors. By this arrangement the ex-
: peases of the Institution will be sustained, and all difficulties
in its way removed.
The Board of Trustees t ike this occasion'd) say, thatafer
this year t'ne Steward's Hall will be discontinued. This is
done, that there may be no hindrance in the way of such per-
{ sons as may wish to move to Midway fur the purpose of taking
! boarders.
The Trustees close this co.ninuaication by suggesting to pa-
j rents, (wli i desire tlicir children to be e iucate 1, and v. no
j cannot afford to sen 1 them abroad lor this purpose) tne pro-
I priety of settling themselves at Midway. By taking board-
! ers, the expenses of their family eoubl lie snore than sustain
ed. and their children of’ all ages receive a thorough and fi-
! nished education. To others disposed to turn their attention
| to keeping boarders as a business, we would suggest that
S Midway offers inducements inferior to lew .if any other posi
j tions at the South—a healthy and deligutml location, and
| as many boarders as they may bo able to accommodate.
