Franklin.—It is ratlicrn curious incident, that when the
American tjoogress sent Dr. Frankling, a printer, a* Mi
nister to France, fhe Court of Versailles sent M. Girard, a
bookbinder, as Minister to the United Stetes. When Dr.
Franklin was told of it, he exclaimed, “^Aell, Fll print
the Independence of America, and M. Girard will bind it.”
The Human Heart.—It appears from the rcsear lies
of an English physician of eminence, Dr. Glenderwing.
published in the Medical Gazette, the medium weight of
thc heart is nine ounce* in man and eight in woman. I he
remarkable fart, and one hitherto unknown is, that the
heart of mun becomes heavier ns old age approaches,
while that of women dimiftirives in weight, after the thirti
eth year.
Hen’s Wages.—“What’s your eggs a dozen marnv?”
said nn old skinflint tou market woman.
“ Twenty-five cents, sir.”
“ Aint you rather high in your price, ninepeneff is enough
for eggs 7”
"'Perhaps sueli nn old hanks as yoa may think so, but

Live Stock.—The steamboat Louisville, recently arri

women and children, 189G ducks, geese, turkeys, and
chickens, 137 horses, 30 head of cattle, 23 hog*, nnd 22
mules.
Tits striped pig outdone.—It is stated in nn exchange
paper, that rum, thc sale of which is prohibited to the
troops of the U. S. army, is smuggled inf» ramp by the
fruit traders in Florida, very ingeniously, by emptying co
coa nuts of their milk, and filling them with the liquor,
then sealing thc eye of the nut with pitch.
