Sec. 5. And be it further enacted by the authority
aforesaid, 1 hat his Excellency the Governor is hereby
authorized and requested to appoint two competent per
sons, to one or other of whom till accounts shall lie reudv-n-d
for claims, on account of provisions furnished to any
troops, or services rendered by persons who were in tits
service of the State, in the campaign against the C'tsrk
Indians, and in the Chorokea country, who bad bean ot-
tiered out under the command of the Governor, or tbe
commanding officer of the Brigade or Division, or lbs
Colonel ot the county, and in the several expedition* into
the lorritory of I* loritla, whether mustered into service or
not, and for clothing and necessaries furnished to them;
and tlie persons so appointed do receive such accounts,
and the evidence in support thereof, and report the same
to the Governor, und that the Governor be requested to
pay the amount of the claims, as just and well founded by
warrant on the Treasury, from the military fund: Presi
ded, that said Commissioner shall before he audits any ot
said accounts, shall receive satisfactory evidence that ilia
articles of provisions, clothing, and necessaries for which
pay is claimed, were necessaty, were pure ha sed in g,.od
tailh, and applied to the use of said troops, and that they
were furnished at reasonable and customary prices, and
that suid articles were procured by the order of the Gov
ernor.
Sec. S. And be it fnrihtr enacted, »J-c., That the s-»»-
ral accounts shall be supported by the oath of the claimant,
and such other evidence in writing a* he may be able to
adduce ; and in a.l cases, the Commissioner sitall be satis
fied of the truth and accuracy of tite accounts, and tint
reaseuabicness of the cliurges, and that so much thereof
as may be chargeable to the Government of the United
States, shall be transmitted to that Government for reim
bursement.
Sec. 7. Aud be it further enacted, 4*e-, That a Com
missioner shall be appointed for the Cherokee country
and middle Georgin, and one for the counties west of tha
Ocmtilgea river, and south of the road leading from the
seat ot Government to Columbus—each of whom shall re
ceive tor his services, such compensation as shall ba
deemed proper by the Governor.
Sec. U. And be it further enacted, 4*c., That the Com
missioner hereby directed to be appointed, shall gi\»
thirty days notice, in one or more of the gazettes published
in Milled geville, of the time aud [dace w hen lie wi.l re
ceive aud audit accounts.
