3d. The gn«at saving of labor in chopping out,
the seed being deposited in a line one after another.
4th. The great saving in subsequent hoe work,
owing to the fact that any plow -band can, in siding,
cover all the first crop of grass iu the drill, however
small the cotton may be, without injuring the stand.
These advantages all farmers will appreciate;
and below w s give some certificates, from which
the public can learn how these Drillsifu'eapprecia

of the State—all practical farmers, who have thor
oughly tested them, and are consequently fully
competent to decide on their merits.
Certificate's,
is to eertifv that I planted one hundred and sixty
Thi
acres of cotton with Kandali ami Mercer's Planters, and
I consider them superior to any thing ot* the kind 1 have
ever seen or tried. The saving of seed alone would pay
for the machint*3 in a season or two, and I think a hand
can do one-third more hoeing than he could in cotton
planted tlie common way. « S. L. BARBER.

Messrs. Randall $ Mercer—Gentlemen; In reply to
yours of this date, 1 can say wiih satisfaction, that I have
used your Cott«?b-Seed Drills on the farm of D. A. Vason,
Esq., with great success. I consider them to be of great
value. They are a saving of about one third of the labor
of cultivation, about two nr three bushels of seed to the
acre in planting, and a great saving of labor in planting,
as they open the furrow, drop and cover the seed with
one horse and hand. I think them worth one hundred
dollars a piece to any planter that plants full crops of
cotton. As fur ruyself I would not plant a crop of cot
ton without them for no consideration in the bounds of
reason. Yours, verv respectfully.

I have used Randall & Mercer's Cotton Planter two
seasons and consider them of great value to the farmer.
I save seed enoegh eac]^ year to pay lor the Planters,
then I save at least one-third the labor of cultivation, as
the cotton is sowed in so narrow’ a line that with good
plowing there is h *t little hoe work needed. There is
also a saving of hands and horses in planting. I should
say they w$re worth one hundred dollars each, and re
commend every farmer to use them.

Messrs. Randall <V Mercer—Gentlemen : In reply to
yours I will only say 1 have uspd three of your Cotton
seed Drills, and consider them of great value, from the
fact that in the u e of them I saved from two to three
bushels of seed to each acre planted, and at least one-
third of the labor of cultivation, not requiring one-half as
mnch hoe work as the old way of .planting—also, a con
siderable saving in the labor of planting. I never expect
to plant cotton without them, if I can get them at any
price. I have planted eight acres per day to each Drill.
They are simple, easily managed, and there is no difU-
culty about getting a good staud.
Very rr spectfully yours, \Y. F. HAM RICK.

recommend all planters who have not tried them, to
give them a fair trial. Where the Drills are used there
is a £»re#i deal of labor ss ved in cultivating a crop, owing
to iis being so uniform iu the drill, the plowing can be
done much better, and with greater despatch, conse

Drills, with which I finished. m
It is the desideratum nJ long sought after.
Many and varied have been the a ttempts of intelligent
minds to Attain what you have acctmiplished. but with on
]y partial success. Thi * leaves nothing to be desi cd in
a Cotton DrilL It deposits the seed uniformly and con
tinuously in a straight and narrow line as you wish, saves
about one half the labor iu planting and about one-third
of the hoe work in cultivation. Ir is almost needless U
add that I am delighted with your Drill.
Yours respectfully, J.E. MERCER.

ICHARD W INMAN from Sheffield, Eng-
XV laud. Manufacturer of Inman’s “Patent”
Door and Gate Spriii£rs,to whom was»awarded the
first Premium at the. World’s Fair in London.1851,
announces that he lias constituted Messrs. FAIR
& EDWARDS his sole Agents for the counties of
Baldwjn, Putnam, Washington and Hancock, State
of Georgia.
For neatness, simplicity, full performance of all
it is intended to do, its exceeding usefulness, its du
rability and its cheajiness, it certainly takes its po
sition in the front rank of modern inventions. We
do not intend to puff. A slight examination will
convince the judgment of its utility. R. W. I.

Messrs. Randall k Mercer—Gentlemen : Ihave used
e’gntot’ v.iur Cotton-seed Drills, mumiltn iuretl by J. li.
Watson, on Col. Joseph Bono’s Fowl Town plantation
I am much pleased With theip, hav-uur realized great
saving oi seed, or lab.orin plantingand chopping oui, and
tiie hands at the first siding could go ovei at least one
third more in a day, and do better work than in cotton
planted in the best way I could plant with colter and
block. I have no hesitation in giving it as my opinion
thatj in the use of your Drills there is a saving ol one-
third of the labor of cultivating a cotion crop. Col. Bond
is pleased with them and will continue their use.
Yours, respectfully, JAATi-S CHEEK.

Mercer’s Cotton Planter-, and have no hesitation in say
ing that they will do. The saving of labor in planting is
an object, the saving of seed is an object, and tbe cotton
stanos in suob a narrow d lildiat it may almost be kept
clean without the hoes. There is nothing to equal them
in planting cotton. * WM. B. REYNOLDS

T have used Randall 5c Mercer’s Cotion -seed Drill,
which I purchased of Col. J. H. Watson, and think they
are the best machines now in use. I un satisfied there is
a great saving in seed and a greater saving in work. 1
am fully satisfied there is one Third ofthe hoe work saved.
Try them, and any reasonable man will be satisfied they
are worth mure than three times tho price they are sold
tor. PHILIP WEST.
Having obtained from Messrs. Randall & Mer
cer the exclusive right of supplying the State of
Georgia with these Drills, I am now prejiared to
supply 'all demands, having made arrangements
for their manufacture in Palmyra and Milledge
ville. My price is $15 99 cash, delivered at either
Palmyra or Milledgeville. Money sent at my risk
by mail, if the requisitions of the Post office Depart
