} ANOTHER TOURNAMENT.
The young men of Milledgeviile and

1'iie ri ling was better than before, ow
ing to the practice in the mean time:
but not quite so much interest was mani
fested in it by the people, inasmuch as
the ctowd -was not as large as before.
The c ntest for the first prize was close
and exciting, between Messrs Whitaker
and Duncan ; it being necessary for
them to ride three times before one made
more points than the other. Dr. Whit
aker being the successful Knight, threw
down the gauntlet of defiance to any
and all who dared enter the lists. It
was taken up by au unknown Knight in
disguise, who at that juncture appeared
But owing to some misunderstanding
between ihe two rival knights and the
judges as to a poiut in the rules of the
Tourney, to be decided, the unknown
knight reiused to ride, and retired from
the lists. Our young friend, Mr. B. W.
Barrow, after a neat and appropriate ad
dress, delivered the prizes as follows:
To Dr. J. C. Whitaker, the first—a fine
saddle and bridle; to Mr. George Dun
can, the second—a pair of Derringers;
t<> Mr. George C. Harris, the thiid,—a
silver cup; aud to Mr. J. C. Ilawkins,
the heraldship at the ball, to follow that
evening.
Taken altogether, Milledgeviile is hard
to beat on Tournaments and Balls.
Messrs. Winship & Callaway, Second
street, Macon, keep a full supply of
ready made clothing, Gents furnishing
goods, and all articles of apparel, such
as can be found no where else for as
good a bargain as thev offer. Being
gentlemen who fully understand the
popular wants, they keep such goods as
are su;e to please even ihe most fastid

which visitors are received, insure subse

By referring to the eolumns headed
“Macon Advertisemeuts," the merchants
of Milledgeviile will see that their Ma
con brethren are about to whip them off
their own ground and secure the trade
of Baldwin county. They are wide a»
wake, and are determined to let the
people know by advertising—the only
sensible way—that they are the men
with whom to trade. We refer our mer
chants to an article in this week’t paper,
from the Momoe Advertiser, which ex
presses what we wish to say exactly.

give all the particulars that are worthy
