Minutes of the last meeting were read and
confirmed, except so much as relates to the
application of II. Temples to lease certain
lauds on West Common, on short lease—in
lieu thereof to lease for ihe term of one thous
and years.
The Finance Committee, to whom was re
ferred the memorial "of the Merchants’ and
Mechanics’Fite Co., beg further time, which
on motion was granted.
On motion of Alderman the rules were
suspended for the purpose of takiug up the
following Ordinance and acting cn the same
instanter, to-wit:
Be it ordained by the Mayor aud Aid. rmen
of the city of MilledgeviHe. and it i, hereby
ordained by authority of tho same. That so
much of 3rd Section of the printed Ordinances
as refers to the Clerk of the Market be, aud
the same are hereby suspended until the first
day of January next.
The application of \V. V. Ellison to lease
one stall in front part of Market, was granted
to the first day of January next, at the price
of ten dollars.
The petition of A. J. Riddle, Esq., in rela
tion to tax imposed on his profession (Photo
grapher) was received, and on motion rejec
ted.
On motion, Resolved, That the Clerk of
Council be aud is hereby authorized and in
structed to refund (when in funds so to do,)
to the parties that have taken out their License
as Retailer* of Spirituous Liquors for the year
1S71, conditioned that they and each of them
will sign an agreement not to put up any oth
er claim or claims tor previous years. Passed.
Alderman Joseph offered the folloiviug :
Resolved, That the Mayor he requested to
order the Marshal to notify the owners of va
cant lot on the corner of Wayne aud Green
streets to have the lot fenced in properly. If
at the expiration of tun days the owners refuse
to have the same done the Mayor is authori
zed to see it done at the expense of the cityj

dition of the city, we find that we will be en
abled to expend $3,000 without embarrassing
the requirements necessary to conduct the
regular duties of the City Government, aud
m view of the necessity of an Engine aud Mar„
k T House, we see no reason or impediment
why the proposed enterprise should not at
once be entered into. We request the appoint
ment of a Building Committee, with power
to act aud to use the credit of the city to the
amount of three thousand dollars, after the
Council has approved the plan which must he
submitted before the work is commenced, or
contracts entered into.
