Court Week.
The Superior Court for Baldwin coun
ty, Judge Itobinson presiding, convened
on Monday morning. Upon calling the
roll of Grand Jurors, twenty'two of the
twen'y-three summoned, responded to
their names and were impanneled. This
fact shows a remarkable aud commend*
able degree of promptness aud regard
fur the public interests on the part of our
citizens. The Judge’s charge was as usual
(u.J, luminous and explicit. It is doubt
ful if the various dockets can be
cleared during the present week, and ’tis
thought probable that an extra term may
be called for that purpose. All of the
members of the Bar for this coauty and
several front the remainder of the Cir-

Large Public Meeting in Baldwin.
According to a previous call, there was
a large and enthusiastic meetin— on
Tuesday, August 22J, in the Senate
Chamber of the old State House at Mil
ledgeville. ihe meeting was organized
upon motion of Hon. T. W. White, by
caliiug Col. John S. Thomas to the
Chair. ^Mr. J. II. Furman moved that
Benj. W. Barrow, Esq., be requested to
act as Secretary.
The meeting was then called to order,
and Col. McKinley in a few words stat
ed its object: “To adopt measures to se
cure the location of the Agricultural,
Mechanical and Military College in the
public buildings at Milledgeville.’’ Col.
H. D. Capers, of Savannah, was then in
troduced by the Mayor, and delivered
an effective au eloquent speech upon the
matter before the meeting, fie was fol
lowed by Capt. Williamson and Mr. J.
H. E urrnan, who clearly and pointedly
showed the advantages of Milledgeville
as the proper 6ite for the Agricultural
College. After Mr. Furman concluded,
Col. McKinley moved the following res
olutions, which were adopted, unani
mously, viz :
Resolved, That as the land granted to
Georgia by Congress will be forfeited
and lost, and the Scrip have to be re
funded to the United States on the first
day of July, 1S72, unless the State
shall establish before then, such Agri
cultural College as the laud was in’end-
cd to maintain ; therefore, the Legisla
ture ought to establish such College
promptly in November next, and let it
get to woik by March or April next
thereafter.
2d. As the State already has on
hand at Milledgeville, the State House,
Governor's House, three other dwelling
houses, besides shops, sheds and otlieT
buildings, which cost the State over
8500,000, and would now cost 81,000.-
000,—and as the City Council of Mil
ledgeville offers to give the State a rich
farm land, 50 to 500 acres for the School,
and the Presbyterian Church at Mil
ledgeville also offers to give to the State
for the School, the old Oglethorpe Col
lege buildings and its fourteen Barracks
and fifty acres of land, in ali 54 rooms,
and worth to the State, at least 8200,-
000 more ; that, therefore, the Legisla
ture ought to establish the Military Ag
ricultural and Mechanical College in the
Public Buildings at Milledgeville, in
November next, without further loss ol
time, or expense to the people.
3d. As the State is by law made
