erence for Milledgeville—or if the peti
tion of her citizens has any similarity
with the devil’s attempt to bribe his
Lord and Master, it must float in the
brains of the “Southern Watchman” and
no where else. Again, wc regard as cx-

been so generally destroyed, bnt has
been seriously injured both in the bead
and the straw, from long continuance of
the wind and water.
Those who think the oil wells of
Pennsylvania Lave played out, may be
surprised to learn that the production of
petroleum in this country is steadily on
the increase. In 1S60 we exported but
one and a half millions of gallons ; in
1S6S it had reached ninety-nine mil
lions, and last year it was oue hundred
and forty-one millions. The increase in
the flow of oil in Pennsylvania, since
18G7, has been nearly fifty per cent.
A letter written by a Polish exile in
Siberia, and pnblisbed in the Galician
Dzennih, gives a heart-rendiug account
of tbc sufferings which the men who par
ticipated in the insurrection of 1863
have to undergo. He says that their
food is utterly insufficient, and that the

Court House to-day.
Judge James B. Neal was called to
the Chair and George P. Stovall request
ed to act as Secretary. The Chair then

ital moved back to Milledgeville from
Atlauta. On motion, a committee of
three, consisting of Col. M. C. Fulton,
F. M. Usry and J. Hillman, Were ap
pointed to draft resolutions for the action

rather than his condescension to reply.
Besides, wo would remind Dr. Bard of
the extreme recency of his remarkable
feat by which he ‘pinned’ himself to the
Democratic tail, and with what apparent
subserviency and honest devotion he
had up lo the very moment, dangled
upon the skirts ot ultra radicalism, in
all its hues aud shapes. In his advo
